In the Funds & Wholesale team, I specialised in funds regulation, in particular the creation of new regulatory frameworks including the Overseas Funds Regime, Sustainability Disclosure Requirements and the broadening of retail access to Long-Term Asset Funds.

As a barrister sole I had a broad practice, including judicial review, civil litigation, serious crime, and accident compensation.

As a junior barrister I provided support to 16 barristers in chambers across a range of practice areas. My instructions ranged from research and legal drafting, to preparing for and appearing in court.

During my time as a solicitor in Russell McVeagh’s Litigation and Public Law teams, I worked on a range of matters and acquired specialist knowledge in accident compensation, health and safety, and financial regulation. I was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in September 2016, and subsequently appeared as junior counsel in the District Court and its Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) jurisdiction. While at Russell McVeagh I undertook secondments at ACC and the Community Law Centre.I was also a contributing author to a number of the firm’s publications, and in 2016 I was a contributor to The Laws of New Zealand Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act chapter.

As Co-Editor of Salient, Victoria University's student magazine, I was responsible for producing a 48-56pp magazine on a weekly basis during the university term. I led a team of paid staff and volunteers to produce features, news, reviews and opinion pieces on a range of topics of interest to the student body. My Co-Editor and I were solely responsible for hiring staff, managing the publication's budget and negotiating our printing contracts, as well as coordinating with advertisers, the Students' Association and the University to ensure the sustainability of the magazine. We also redesigned the publication's website, working closely with a web designer to overhaul the site. At the Aotearoa Student Press Association Awards 2013, our publication won first place awards for Best Feature, Best Feature Writer, Best News Writer (Unpaid), Best Website, Best Sports Writer and Best Headline. The publication placed second overall and picked up a number of second- and third-placings in other categories.

As a summer clerk in the firm’s Litigation team, I assisted lawyers at all levels of the firm with research in a wide variety of legal topics, producing opinions and internal memos to meet strict deadlines. A highlight of the experience was preparing and presenting a firm-wide seminar on a contentious area of New Zealand law.

As News Editor of Salient I was responsible for producing eight pages of news content for the weekly publication. I led and trained a team of news volunteers, delegated and edited stories, and conducted interviews and produced stories relating to the tertiary sector and Victoria University. At the Aotearoa Student Press Association Awards in 2010, I was awarded second place in the Best News (Paid) category.
