As a child of immigrants, it seemed my destiny was predetermined as a key player in the family business. Many of my early years were spent supporting my family's livelihood - whether it was producing clothing, packaging goods, delivering them, or negotiating pay. Witnessing other hard-working immigrant families who contributed to their community by manufacturing, running restaurants, and toiling away in the foundries piqued my curiosity about how I could support my own family better, as well as others.As a result, I became deeply interested in learning and embarked on an academic career. However, I soon realized that what I was studying did not provide an accurate depiction of the communities I belonged to. Academic journals and literature tended to exclude the realities of running small businesses, despite their critical importance to local economies and communal relations. Over the past 30 years, I have contributed to sharing stories similar to my family's with the wider public through journals like Management Studies, Human Relations, Public Administration, and Human Resource Management Journal.During this time, I have also collaborated and partnered with leading academics from Australia, Canada, Finland, the United States, and other countries, not only to produce rigorous academic research, but also to demonstrate its impact. With more than £10 million in research grants secured, over 70 completed projects as a Principal Investigator, 80+ public reports, and more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, I have established myself as an engaged scholar.However, this is not the end of my journey. I am excited and passionate about continuing to promote enterprise and diversity as everyone's business. Whether it is through speaking engagements, consultancy support, or developing the next generation of engaged scholars, I am committed to building strong and effective communities that promote diversity and inclusion.
