As a woman pioneer in the field of carpentry thirty years ago, Moneca was awarded the YMCA Women of Distinction Award in 2009, acknowledging her inroads into a male dominated field as a home designer, builder and general contractor. Moneca began her studies in philosophy, but after picking up a hammer she was seduced by the scale and impact designing and building spaces to live and play in and entered a formal carpentry apprenticeship, through Algonquin College. She founded Moneca Kaiser Design Build in ltd.(MKDB) in 1994. Since its creation, MKDB has become a well respected and award-winning full-service home design and renovation company, known for its innovative designs, outstanding service, and commitment to environmental ethics. In 2020 she has moved the company to design only services because it can affect more positive change by defining scope and systems for others to implement. Moneca’s deep sense of social responsibility guides all her actions. MKDB’s mission is to reveal caring as the true source of our shelter and incite our wish for the ideal home for all.
