Spokesperson for NOAA's scientific research, providing the nation with environmental information on climate, weather, oceanic and Great Lakes research, technology development and other science to support informed decisions by the nation, regional and local communities. Work with scientists and communicators at NOAA's 10 research laboratories and programs across the country to help the news media and general public understand our changing climate, weather, ocean and Great Lakes.

Work as a liaison for NOAA with Congress, members and their staff, on issues related to NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) – including the Magnuson-Stevens Act, habitat protection and restoration, highly migratory species, international fisheries organizations (including International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna), illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and Northeast and Mid-Atlantic fisheries. Served in this position as a special detail.

NOAA spokesperson for wide range of national science and policy issues with focus on international and domestic fisheries, marine mammals, sea turtles and marine ecosystems. Deputy to director of public affairs for NOAA communications in Fisheries Service, a fast-paced public affairs office serving international, national and regional media on broad range of marine science issues. Advise and guide federal agency leaders in the effective and strategic use of full range of public and social media to communicate science and policy. Apply expert written and verbal skills to produce commentaries, press releases, web stories, interviews and other materials.

Led editorial page and Op-Ed section for five years and worked as senior reporter covering education and environment issues for the four plus previous years. Researched and wrote daily editorials for newspaper in nation's top grossing fishing port. Worked with columnists and edited letters-to-the editor, chaired community editorial board that included publisher, editor-in-chief and members of the community. Won several awards for editorials including a NENPA Publick Occurrences award for editorial exposing government negligence & outright campaign against affordable public housing. Also awarded NEPA awards for editorials promoting fishermen's safety.

Managed reporters in BDN coastal bureaus in Calais, Ellsworth, Belfast and Rockland as well as newspaper's business writer, environment writer and Millinocket-based reporter. Led coastal team in series on environmental and economic change in the Gulf of Maine coastal communities and marine waters.

Edited community weekly newspaper with the highest household penetration in the family-owned chain of community newspapers at 90-percent paid household circulation. I focused the newspaper on in- depth coverage of public education, the environment and local government. I wrote editorials and managed robust opinion pages that routinely overflowed with letters and commentaries, requiring us to add extra pages many weeks.
