The IEU represents the industrial and professional interests of teaching and support staff in non-government schools, colleges and early childhood centres. As Media and Communications Co-ordinator I lead, create, produce and oversee print and digital communications for a 32,000-strong membership.Together with my team, I develop and implement strategic communications to position the union in mainstream and regional media, lobby government, influence key education stakeholders, and inspire support among the broader community for this vital, frontline profession. I distil complex industrial relations issues and education policy with clarity and nuance.I develop and implement campaigns that inspire action and I work collaboratively across the organisation to fine-tune responses to political developments. I oversee digital and social media content and management of community feedback, and I’m the managing editor of monthly print and digital news updates and a quarterly professional journal, providing in-depth analysis of education issues and trends.

Planning, developing, implementing and reporting on integrated marketing and communications campaigns across multiple channels, with a particular focus on research, to position the University’s brand and boost rankings; developing and producing high-quality communications tailored to diverse audiences (academics, researchers, philanthropists, alumni, industry, current and potential students); managing online content and social media channels to reach target audiences and support University strategies; building influence with key academic stakeholders to promote and improve the University’s research reputation and student recruitment initiatives. Developing partnerships with the Sydney Writers' Festival and Sydney Film Festival.

Key member of small, specialist project team assembled to migrate the University's website from a legacy platform to Adobe Experience manager over 18 months. Meeting with key faculty stakeholders to discern and accommodate their unique needs within a consistent institutional site. Project managing and creating web content aligned to the University’s wider content marketing strategy, applying SEO principles and insights from analytics to refine content. Developing and applying sitewide style and tone.

Writing, editing, producing and tailoring communications for diverse audiences including students, academics, alumni, governance and philanthropists to a high standard and congruent with the University’s style and tone of voice, for digital and print formats. Leading production of two magazines, Muse (for the University of Sydney museums) and SAM, the Sydney Alumni Magazine. Editing premium hardback product, "Golden Graduates: Stories of Graduates from the 1930s to the 1960s", comprising contributions from hundreds of alumni, attracting a $1.2 million donation for research.

Swiftly and meticulously sub-editing breaking news, world news, editorials, features and op-ed for print and online editions to meet exacting editorial standards and tight deadlines; subediting long-form features for magazines; stringent fact-checking to ensure accuracy.Section editor, Saleroom: Sourcing, writing and commissioning content for weekly sectioncovering the art market and investment in art, and major art prizes, including the Archibald.Chief sub-editor: BRW, BOSS Magazine, AFR Magazine, managing copy flow and a team ofsub-editors to meet strict schedules; coordinating with contributors to ensure copy was deliveredon time; collaborating with designers to distil complex information into clear layouts.Letters editor: Selecting and editing letters for publication in the Australian Financial Review.

Copy editing and preparing legal, business and technical texts for publication, frommanuscript to printed product; assessing commissioned manuscripts; liaising with authors;providing in-house support for external freelancers; overseeing diverse titles covering contractlaw, criminal law, torts, corporate law, women and the law, and international law. Key achievements: Editing International Law: Contemporary Principles and Practices by Professor Gillian Triggs, former President of the Australian Human Rights Commission. In her foreword, Professor Triggs wrote: “Monica Crouch has been the perfect editor and this text owes much to her professionalism and meticulous attention to detail.”
