Monica Mehta, Pharmd, Mph is a professional in their field. Colleagues describe them as "I met Dr. Monica Mehta when I started my infectious diseases fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center in 2018. She took great interest in training the incoming fellows through didactics and instruction as part of our clinical team. She shared her deep knowledge of broad pharmacologic principles and all the medications we would need as part of our arsenal as infectious disease physicians. She taught us everything from antibiotics 101, pharmacokinetics, and antimicrobial stewardship. She has a remarkable expertise in treating a range of infections from simple urinary tract infections and pneumonia to opportunistic fungal infections, toxoplasmosis and rare mycobacterial disease. She was my most reliable PharmD colleague whenever I had a question or doubt as to how to treat these infections. Dr. Mehta cared about the details of the case, the practicalities of the medication/dosing and potential side effects on discharge, and the structural and social factors that would influence medication adherence. Furthermore, Monica’s talent as an educator and clinician passionate about healthcare disparities led to inquiry and discover. We worked together on a project focused on a COVID-19 related racial disparities project in terms of remdesivir outcomes. She was the driving force of our project and analysis. We successfully published our findings in the journal Ethnicity & Disease. Monica has a commitment and passion for change; and wants to make an impact in people’s health and lives. She is intellectually curious and has a desire to reveal and address healthcare inequities. She is also a trusted friend – someone who I confide in outside of work." and "I worked with Monica for over 11 years. I have always been amazed at Monica’s dedication to public health and her passion to pursue things that make a difference, mostly to facilitate change for the better. This quality shined during the COVID-19 pandemic when in addition to patient care she spearheaded our institutional COVID-19 treatment guidelines with its endless revisions and took on a leadership role in swiftly evaluating the therapies we were using (e.g., our early use of tocilizumab) so others could learn from our experiences. Making a difference was also evident with her dedication to teaching. Monica shines as a skilled communicator always able to see the positive side of a stressful situation.
