Monica was tasked with designing the data strategy for us to be able to stand our own data for current as well as historical data from the various data sources. Data extracted from three different ERP systems: three for historical data, and one for Current data. The one for current data being Microsoft Dynamics 365. This entailed setting up a data lake in Microsoft Azure as well as Azure Synapse to connect Dynamics 365 to extract the data. This also entailed setting up the data model which was tedious task of mapping fields from legacy ERP to current ERP. Lastly, it also entailed understanding the various reporting needs form the business and meeting with business leaders to obtain the reporting requirements and sample reports to build them in Microsoft Power BI. I was pleasantly surprised at Monica’s level of dedication to the work and the various setups that needed to be connected to get to a single place from where the data could be modeled. The amount of data was also a challenge since the volume included more than a decade of transactional data from various legal entities which needed to be tamed.
