I am passionate about supporting black and brown leaders as they reclaim the narratives that shape our identities and as they create art that moves beyond resilience, stories that are joyful and justice-focused, stories that call our communities to action as we continue moving toward liberation from oppression, inequity, incarceration and everything else trying to keep us back. Art that comes from voices in the calles, behind bars, seeking reconnection to a culture that was ravaged, and finding liberation from generational trauma, police violence, and recurring racism - this is how we remember our ancestors and rewrite the stories that have been forced on us.I recently had the pleasure of presenting at UCR's 2nd Annual Supporting Successful Reentry Conference about the power of storytelling and breaking stereotypes as impacted students on college campuses.
