I am a former professional ballerina with The Washington Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble, and Los Angeles Ballet companies, and an experienced change maker in increasing racial and ethnic diversity in the arts and creating access to artistic excellence.Following my performing career, I led the Diversity and Inclusion initiative at American Ballet Theatre, Project Plié, aimed at increasing diversity in professional ballet companies nationwide. I then transitioned to The Washington School of Ballet SE Campus at THEARC which is at the forefront of providing equitable professional ballet training in an African American community. I am currently the Director of Preparatory Dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and a PhD candidate examining the intersection of ballet pedagogy and race. My dissertation interest is the experiences, perceptions, and construction of expertise and credibility for black classical ballet teachers.I have been featured in Dance Teacher Magazine, NYU Alumni Magazine, The Washington Post, and I frequently speak on Diversity and Inclusion panels at conferences and arts organizations.
