I’m working at MCW Research Computing Center which maintains the High Performance Computing Cluster as one of the system administrators. Our team is in charge of maintaining the cluster and giving support to users. This includes (but not limited to) the installation, debugging, parallelization and performance tuning of research software. Managing the scheduler and resource allocation, staff and students accounts, developing training seminars, etc.

My main job was to analyze MRI images of the brain, fix any artifacts present in the images and extract from them numerical and statistical measures that can be used to test specific hypotheses. To do this, I used the following programming languages: Python, shell and Matlab. I also used MySQL to store results, behavioral and clinical data from participants. I did most of the image processing on a HPC cluster. I was in charge of creating the job scripts, monitoring, and troubleshooting as well as extracting the results and conducting statistical analyses on them. I submit all kinds of jobs (single and multi-thread or some that use GPU). I install and maintain and develop specialized software for the analysis of neuroimaging data. I created a python software to automate the submission and execution of scripts and parts of the processing pipeline for any type of research project. Additionally, I was in charge of maintaining the web page of the lab (https://www.neuro.mcw.edu/).

- Wrote Python and shell programs to organize and conduct statistical analyses from behavioral and clinical data of hundreds of American football players scanned at different time points and across different research centers and to process neuroimaging data (mainly Diffusion Tensor Images).- Used the HPC cluster to run parallel jobs that require a high amount of computing resources. - Performed statistical analyses using SPSS, Matlab, and Python.- Organized and carried out a programming workshop for graduate students and researchers.

- Used Python to divide the brain into a mesh (which can be thought of as a huge graph with millions of nodes, each node representing a small area of the brain), and then used that mesh to automatically segment lesions from patients with multiple sclerosis using differences in the intensity values of the image. - Created a Java program to visualize and check the results of the segmentation.- Used Python, Shell, and Matlab to process Magnetic Resonance Images in a HPC cluster.

- Used Java to retrieve and organize data from two publicly available neuroimaging databases that contain a large amount of imaging files and documents from more than a thousand patients. They are called Rockland and ABIDE. - Used Python, Shell, and Matlab to process Magnetic Resonance Images in a HPC cluster and to perform statistical analyses, create graphs and visual reports to present in conferences and to produce scientific articles. - Used the HPC cluster to submit, monitor and troubleshoot jobs.- Time series analysis of BOLD images (CONN Toolbox Matlab)

I graduated with a PhD in Biomedicine (Research area Neuroscience) in 2014 from the University of Barcelona. I did my research project as a visiting student in the Centre for Vision Research at York University in Canada. I graduated with honours and my thesis was reviewed by two experts, very known in the field of research in dyslexia: Prof. John Stein from Oxford University and Prof. Andrea Facoetti from the University of Padua. The objective of my project was to test the magnocellular theory of dyslexia, one of the most prominent albeit controversial theories in the research of this disorder. This theory claims that deficits in the magnocellular system of the brain are responsible for the behavioural deficits in dyslexia. I studied specifically the morphology and connectivity of the lateral geniculate nucleus, the only location in the brain where the magnocellular neurones are spatially disjoint from other type of neurones and thus offers the possibility to do a unique structural test, in a group of subjects with dyslexia and controls using Magnetic Resonance Imaging. - I studied the different tools available for analyzing diffusion tensor images (DTI) and designed and implemented a program in Java for the semi-automation of the processing pipeline for DTI. - The software Integrates multiple neuroimaging tools into one single user interface and guides the user step by step through the pipeline for analyzing the images.- Provides persistency through a MySQL database.- Allows processes to run in parallel using threads.Programming languages: Java, SQL, Shell, MatlabNeuroimaging software: SPM, MRIcron, ANTS registration, FSL, FreeSurfer, TrackVis.

I worked in the Fundacio Privada centre CIM as researcher in different projects related to the development of new technologies for people with disabilities (INREDIS Project). I did research on how these new technologies help them to integrate to the knowledge society, on the human-machine interaction technologies and on inter operability protocols
