This was my first real change in scenery in terms of work. I had gone from a more customer-based role to a food industry role. My main tasks however ranged from sorting and taking out dishes to student-accessible areas, cleaning different areas of the dining halls, replacing empty trays of food, replenishing cereals, condiments, etc. However, my favorite part of this job was serving allergen and kosher-friendly meals, because I think I grasped the sense of working independently that I didn’t get much of at my last two jobs. Other tools I gained were self-awareness for allergies or intolerances, food safety, and attention to detail. Show less

Because I have a bit of freedom I can and have written about topics like Berkeley, lifestyle, or tips and tricks. As part of the interning team, my main responsibilities were getting people out to vote for John Mannion and inevitably flip the seat to Democrat. A typical workday would include interacting with people in the New York district via phone, whether that be through phone banking, sharing resources and information about Mr. Mannion, or signing people up to volunteer or take part in spreading the word for John Mannion. At times I was also writing policy memos, which included researching bills or… Show more As part of the interning team, my main responsibilities were getting people out to vote for John Mannion and inevitably flip the seat to Democrat. A typical workday would include interacting with people in the New York district via phone, whether that be through phone banking, sharing resources and information about Mr. Mannion, or signing people up to volunteer or take part in spreading the word for John Mannion. At times I was also writing policy memos, which included researching bills or potential bills, which would later be given to Mannion and his higher teams. Similar to my last job, I worked around children and parents, in big groups, and at times at the center of a birthday party. One of the biggest things I learned here was how to work a front desk. I learned how to work a POS system, how to manage and do cash and card transactions, answer phone calls, restock sale items, answer inquiries, and be the first point of communication for people when they walk into the establishment. I learned how to work a POS system, how to manage and do cash and card transactions, answer phone calls, restock sale items, answer inquiries, and be the first point of communication for people when they walk into the establishment. On the ‘floor’ side of this job, I was responsible for watching over 15+ children at one time in order to make sure they wouldn’t get injured or weren’t bringing in or taking out things from the ‘play area.’ Additional tools I gained were organizing items, restocking, cleaning, and food and drink handling.
