Helping accelerate the energy transition by providing Human Factors Engineering expertise to the design of advanced nuclear reactors. We are working on a Boiling Water Reactor that uses proven technology while incorporating safety by intelligent design: the BWRX-300. This is a small modular nuclear reactor featuring passive safety such that neither external power nor operator action will be required to maintain a safe state, even in extreme circumstances. It is a 300 MWe water-cooled natural circulation Small Modular Reactor, and the tenth (hence the X) generation of the Boiling Water Reactor (BWR).

As a board member, I am advising in the development of studies, projects and other activities that reduce overall risk, reduce the likelihood of a catastrophic accident from occurring, and should an incident occur, lessen the severity of consequences to people and the environment.

I was one of the four members of the Process Safety Monitor's team formed following BP’s Plea Agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) as a result of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon incident. The team's mandate was to review, on behalf of the Probation Officer and the DOJ, BP’s process safety, major accident risks and risk management in deep water Gulf of Mexico Drilling, Completions and Well Interventions; and make recommendations for improvements for the purpose of preventing future harm to personnel and the environment. I provided the Industrial Engineering and Human Factors Engineering expertise as part of this four-year assignment.

Prepared for NASA, and delivered at all NASA centers, training on the integration and application of Human Factors in incident investigations.

After a very intense four-year period of work, I took a sabbatical from consulting. While searching for an investment opportunity, my husband and I learned of the recent arrival to the US of the rare Iberian pigs, until then only available in Spain. Foreseeing the need for farms to raise these animals to satisfy the upcoming market, we saw a business opportunity and started a farm. Pasión Ibérica Ranch now produces over 1,200 free range acorn-fed pure Iberian pigs annually, and is currently expanding to an additional location to grow further.- Turned a distressed piece of land into a fully working farm with the required infrastructure (water, electricity, housing, etc), a nursery, animal hospital, barn, and multiple pastures in the first year. - Performed all tasks involved in starting and running a business: planning a budget, crafting a business plan, creating a legal entity, hiring personnel, designing the infrastructure, purchasing machinery, choosing vendors, making investment decisions, accounting, negotiating contracts, and more.
