In 2023 it celebrated its 150th anniversary 🌾Volunteers perform various services to the municipal staff and the general public:- Assist with searches for information about the municipal council, land documents, tax rolls, and voters lists held in the archives. - Support the general public with family history and genealogical research, with access to records for births, marriages, deaths, and burials in the municipality. - Share our history of events and people in the community via our Facebook page. - Catalogue information provided by the municipality and incorporating that into the larger collection. - Acceptance of relevant personal donations from the public. - Organize and curate collections of information about local businesses, sports teams and clubs, schools, churches, and cemeteries.

The Implementation Team was formed in the fall of 2014 and was initially based on a model that had been used in another area of the company. Over time, our efforts and experience shaped the unit to meet the unique needs of Group Insurance Underwriting and its 5 teams of staff in 4 cities. Responsibilities - Maintain the department reference materials on SharePoint. When divisional or departmental policies or procedures changed, I researched which documents were affected, revised the information and provided examples to illustrate the change. As necessary, I consulted with subject-matter experts, Underwriting management or other Group departments to clarify the information. I also determined the impact of changes to the clients' financial agreements and drafted new language. On behalf of the management team, I discussed my draft with the Legal department to ensure it would be clear and consistent within the agreements. For client-specific requests beyond the standard provisions, I developed new wording for the Underwriter and consulted with the Legal area to confirm it was appropriate

If life is a buffet, then this role offered a full menu of projects I was eager to be a part of because it enabled me to work with a variety of customers within the organization. Given the overlapping deadlines, it was satisfying to see progress and completion on an ongoing basis. This was soon followed by the anticipation of the next initiative that could make a real difference to clients and in the daily lives of co-workers. Responsibilities - I represented Group Insurance Underwriting with projects in the Group Division, assessed their impact on the department and implemented the necessary changes. One example is the conversion of financial agreements from insurance "jargon" to plain language. Other projects involved the re-design of common tools used by Underwriting and other Group departments to improve efficiency or minimize the financial impact of errors or omissions. For senior management, I prepared and distributed monthly reports for the service results, productivity and unconfirmed rate reviews for the Winnipeg team. For the local Underwriting Director I also handled the attendance, vacation and overtime records on her behalf.

West St. Paul, Manitoba

Our goals were to build the voters list and prepare for the 2016 provincial election on April 19th, ensuring that every eligible voter in the St. Paul electoral district was provided the opportunity to cast their ballot. Thanks to the team effort of our enumerators and leaders, we successfully enumerated 92% of the estimated voters in our riding. Considering that this was my first work in any election, it's best described by its grueling schedule and a straight-up learning curve, but it was a rewarding experience overall. There are many good people doing this work every 4 years, including the top-notch support team at Elections Manitoba.Responsibilities - Create the voters list in our area for the 2016 provincial election. This was achieved through my training and support of 58 enumerators, so they could locate and document the voters in their assigned areas. Throughout the election period, I also provided the office staff with initial instruction and ongoing assistance for data entry and when responding to inquiries from the general public.

Having left the Associate Manager position I continued to focus on underwriting major Group clients and being a mentor for staff, while also becoming a resource for projects and initiatives in the Group Division. Main responsibilities - Manage all aspects of Group insurance for an assigned block of major clients within established underwriting authority. This involved the annual review of premium rates and expenses, as well as annual financial reporting, pricing of amendments, preparing agreements and supporting the sales office with client requests and opportunities to grow the business.In addition, I mentored less-experienced Underwriters, assisted with inquiries about their assigned clients and introduced new concepts when needed for managing their caseload.Project highlights included business process mapping with ADONIS, market segmentation of the Group business and 2 re-organizations of our floor plan.

This position gave me a unique perspective of 3 worlds in Group Insurance Underwriting. First as an Underwriter managing my clients, building relationships with them and the sales personnel handing the account. Second, as a leader I had the good fortune to work with a team of dedicated Underwriters who were interested in growing their craft and supporting each other with the inevitable challenges that we faced together. During this time, I was also involved with the integration of Canada Life business and led the effort to completely re-write the department's reference manuals. In addition, I was often contacted within the Group Division for technical advice and expertise about products, services and financial arrangements. And for many years I gave presentations about Group Insurance Underwriting at the Division's orientation sessions for new staff.
