As a former Graduate Assistant for ITS HR, I took on a variety of responsibilities, including designing and piloting performance management training courses for staff. In addition, I created a communications plan that included an eNewsletter and blog site for ITS HR, and served as an instructional designer for both face-to-face and online training programs on performance management-related topics. I also assisted with the design and development of training materials for the new IRB application system.My contributions extended beyond training and development, as I co-hosted the first ITS HR Mini Conference for Penn State ITS Managers in 2013, and co-hosted a second mini conference for managers and staff members in 2014. In addition, I redesigned the ITS HR New Employee Orientation program, and completed the redesign of the new onboarding program.Post-Ph.D. completion, I continued to work with Information Technology Services (ITS) Human Resources on special projects aimed at staff professional development and performance improvement plans. Participants gained hands-on experience developing collaborative, inquiry-based projects that support their curricular goals. Participants learned to blend PBL and standards-based design strategies to create curriculum units that enhance student learning. Each participant left the online course with a detailed plan for a PBL project.• Using Digital Portfolios to Foster Student LearningParticipants took an in-depth look at the power of digital portfolios as a tool to document student learning through exploring various formats and uses of digital portfolios in classrooms. Participants were introduced to a wide variety of tools that can be used to create and assemble digital portfolios, and investigate criteria that may be used to select components that would be included in the portfolio. Participants left the course with detailed plans for implementing a digital portfolio project in their respective classrooms.• The Connected StudentThe Connected Student course is specifically designed for K - 12 teachers. Through a variety of readings and activities teachers learned strategies to create a student-centered classroom. Teachers explored the use of Web 2.0 technologies to create a 21st century learning environment.
