As an educator, I'm invested in the holistic success of each student I encounter, whether in-person or virtually. I believe in encouraging engagement and learning by creating safe environments that consider student voices and the nuances of their culture and other identities.Currently, I serve as a mathematics teacher for Will Rogers High School in Tulsa Public Schools, where I've worked to employ innovative learning strategies, develop student relationships, and maintain rigorous expectations to build a classroom environment that promotes learning and engagement. While in this position, I also helped launch the school's Black Student Union and currently serve as the sponsor and advisor to the organization. This has allowed me to provide students with supplementary learning experiences that showcase examples of representation and redefine their ideas of professionalism to understand that they can fully be themselves and achieve success.Outside of the classroom, I'm a big foodie who loves to cook and try new foods (I'll try anything once). I also enjoy reading. While self-help books have been my go-to lately, I typically will dive into any book that grabs my attention. I also love to laugh and used to frequent comedy clubs, but since the pandemic, I've taken to watching the comedy specials released on Netflix. If you'd like to connect, please feel free to do so here or via email at mostevenson7@gmail.com.
