As a global leader and advisor, my work has empowered employers, educators, and policymakers to create better livelihoods and promote the essential conditions for a 21st century workforce. Serving in senior leadership roles, I help develop effective partnerships and learning strategies for a future-ready workforce and equip youth with digital and soft skills. A highly skilled facilitator and trainer, I work with multi-stakeholder groups throughout the world to develop and align their strategies for better jobs and skills. A graduate of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, I’ve worked in 60 poor, middle income, and wealthy countries in Africa, Central and Southeast Asia, Latin America, U.S., and Europe. I speak English, German, French and Spanish. My research on learning at work and complex systems approaches has been published in major media and professional journals.

    Selected examples:• Developed corporate partnerships for USAID’s Global Development Alliance. Resulted in formation of several new corporate relationships with USAID (Dexis/USAID)• Designed and facilitated national multi-stakeholder dialogs on creating an effective youth employment system for the InterAmerican Development Bank in Honduras, Mexico, and the Bahamas. (IaDB)• Researched and wrote background chapter for the ILO/ADB publication: ASEAN Community 2015: Enhancing competitiveness and employability through skill development. Resulted in the publication of a guide for ASEAN member states (ILO/ADB)• For UNESCO, developed global data base, analyzed 140 employer reports, and conducted in-person interviews to document skills gaps of university graduates in various regions of the world. Produced case studies on employer mismatch in Egypt, India, Brazil, and U.S. Published on UNESCO website• For ILO Geneva, analyzed, interviewed employers, policymakers, and educators to produce a comparison study of how three German companies built a dual apprenticeship program in the U.S. Published on the ILO website and presented findings to U.S. Departments of Labor and Education (ILO)

    Selected Examples:• Co-Founder and Co-led “Future Workforce Now:” Reimagining Workforce Policy for the Age of Technology Disruptions” – a partnership with the National Governors Association, 26 US States, MIT’s Fab Foundation and FHI360. To date 14 States have drafted new legislation and 10 have introduced new laws. (Gates, Schmidt, and Siegel Foundations, 2020)• Conducted rapid workforce assessments and trainings in Tunisia, Afghanistan, African Union, Jordan, Egypt, Kyrgyztan, Guatemala, Senior Advisor, USAID Workforce Connections Program. Assessments resulted in new workforce or youth employment projects in many of the countries (USAID, IaDB, ADB)• As one of 5 winners for an FHI 360 Innovation Award, analyzed and produced a study on how young people learn 21st Century skills at MIT’s Fab labs at a U.S. Community College in Dayton, OH, Nairobi University, a South African township, and a STEM high school for girls in Cairo.     Selected Examples:• Founded and directed a Center for workforce development and raised funding for projects that included developing national skills standards for entry into bioscience industry. Produced employer and educator guides to eliminate mismatch between skills learned and skills required (USDOE and USDOL)• Co-developed USAID’s foundational 20- country study on what works in youth employment. Resulted in USAID obtaining Congressional approval to invest in workforce development programs• Co-developed USAID’s first rapid workforce assessment protocol, trained teams and led multiple workforce assessment, trainings, and development projects. Raised $11 Million of soft money, grew a staff of 13 and co-wrote winning proposal for a global $34M workforce development program (USAID)• Designed and co-directed world’s first major empirical study on how informal learning occurs in small, medium and large workplaces. Called “the Teaching Firm,” the study analyzed how, what, and why front-line workers in major corporations (Boeing, Motorola, Siemens and 3 SME companies) in six U.S. states acquired 33 key competencies by participating in 13 different workplace activities such as teams, mentoring, meetings, supervising, research, hallway conversations, shift changing). Study featured in WSJ, LA Times, NPR, and Training Magazine (Pew Charitable Trusts and Workforce Boards of six U.S. states)
