While earning my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Siena College, I had the opportunity to expand my interests and take steps towards creating a life I am proud of. I volunteered in soup kitchens, community centers, crisis hotlines, homeless shelters, and was able to go on numerous Habitat for Humanity builds in my area. I had the opportunity to study abroad in Prague, Czech Republic, teach English in a local school, and then travel to several other countries during my time there. I learned about my passion for yoga, earned my teaching certification, and started privately teaching. Towards the end of my time there I interned at a local middle school and solidified my aspiration to work in the Counseling field.I am currently earning a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University at Albany with an expected graduation in December 2016. I believe that in addition to my education, my experience in career, academic, and mental health counseling have fostered the necessary skills to competently assist any future clients. Through my experience in the V.A. Compensated Work Therapy program, I have developed my skills in assessing career needs as well as identifying occupations that are the best fit given one’s barriers, strengths, experiences, and interests. My counseling experiences have taught me the importance of patience, empathy, and developing rapport while collaborating with my clients to overcome their respective barriers to employment. I have managed a caseload of 10-15 individual clients and 3 weekly group counseling sessions designed to empower Veterans in their pursuits. While working with this caseload I have encouraged clients to express their feelings, discuss what is happening in their lives, as well as to help them to develop insight into themselves and their relationships. While I am relatively new to the counseling field I am a flexible, high-energy candidate excited to continue working in a diverse learning environment.

Common desired areas of growth for my clients include lowering anxiety, increasing balance, increasing flexibility, and fostering a strengthened mind-body connection. Counseling InternVeteran Administration Jan 2016 - Jan 2017Albany, New York AreaWhile interning I collaborated with a diverse group of Veterans in multiple mental health programs to help them achieve success in their vocational, substance abuse recovery, and mental health pursuits. Within the Compensated Work Therapy program, I provided individual/group counseling in addition to guidance in career planning/development to a caseload of roughly 8-10 Veterans. I was able to further assist my clients to remove the medical, psychological, and/or environmental barriers they faced when seeking employment through comprehensive psychosocial assessments, collaboratively designed/implemented treatment plans, as well as structured programs, presentations, networking events and workshops for clients, while performing case management duties when applicable. We discussed topics such as overcoming unemployment, depression, anxiety, substance use and trauma while taking concrete steps towards attaining employment. I prepared and maintained all required treatment records and reports in a computerized medical database.Within the in-patient substance abuse recovery program, I led two weekly groups pertaining to immediate recovery as well as principles of accountability and empowerment within recovery. As clients transitioned to the Chemical Dependency Rehabilitation Program their focus shifted to maintain their sobriety within a 12 (Early Recovery Skills) and 20 (Advanced Recovery Skills) week program while learning the tools to be successful in long term sobriety. I facilitated a group focusing on relapse prevention and psychoeducation on substance abuse/recovery, utilizing HIPAA compliant telehealth application technology when applicable. I incorporated Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness/meditation, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Techniques, as well as some Cognitive Behavioral Techniques on my individual caseload of 3-4 additional clients. -
