During my work as registered nurse in primary health care, I gained a broad experience in pre- and post-natal care, child health, chronic care and minor ailments. As a registered nurse and midwife, I worked as part of a team to deliver care to patients who came to the clinics, as well as patients in rural area’s via mobile clinics. I also gained experience as a team leader and obtained management skills during this time as I oversaw some clinics for some time. I was able to manage minor childhood illnesses and administer immunizations to babies and children and I completed a course in management of childhood illness in 2005.I gained knowledge in the management of hypertension and other cardiac conditions, diabetes and asthma and supplied monthly medications to the patients.I learned how to assess, analyse and think critically in order to form a diagnosis and management plan. I had to rely on own knowledge and skills to manage patients in rural areas with limited access to medical treatment.More recent clinical experience includes my practicum placements during completion of bachelor’s degree in Australia from 2018 to 2019. I was on a four-week placement in Day procedure unit Bunbury regional hospital during stage 5, and in the renal area (4 weeks) and surgical ward (2 weeks) at SJOG Bunbury during stage 6.During this time, I gained knowledge and experience on day procedures performed at Bunbury hospital and the pre-and post-admission care. I also managed pain and nausea and gave IV antibiotics under the supervision of a registered nurse. I performed ECG’s as needed and have done discharge planning and education.During my renal placement, I learned how to manage dialyzing patient and the prevention of complications. I applied best practice during the preparation of the venous access devices by using the aseptic cleaning technique to minimize risk of infection. I gained knowledge in the process of dialyzes and the physiological mechanisms happening in the body during this process.During my surgical placement I got to know how health care are delivered in the Australian health system and took on a patient load of 4 patients.I familiarized myself with policies, procedures, documentation and legal considerations. I gained experience in management of surgical clients pre-and post-surgery, including wound care. I was exposed to pain management strategies and general patient care in the surgical setting.
