As CEO of General Financial Corporation Ltd. (GFC), a holding company, my primary responsibility is to provide strategic counsel and management oversight to ensure long-term profitability of our investments. GFC was until recently a large shareholder of two very distinct, publicly-traded companies: Imvescor Restaurant Group Inc. (IRG), a restaurant franchising company, and Excellium Inc. (XLM), a security company that serves several markets, including governments, police forces, airports and organizers of major events. We have divested from these two entities to concentrate on two new start- up companies: XL-ID Solutions Inc. and Resilia Inc.As a Director, I have had the opportunity to be actively involved in IRG’s financial restructuring of debt which has led to a transaction announcement of a partnering with Fairfax Inc. in October 2011. I also participated in executive and senior management compensation and strategy, creating a new and more effective compensation philosophy. I have recently completed the restructuring plan for Excellium Inc. which has resulted in the forming of a new private entity, XL-ID Solutions Inc. Prior to joining GFC, I was Counsel with the law firm of McInnes Cooper where I specialized in corporate/commercial and trademark law for 10 years. My previous experience also includes chemical research in Toronto and technical sales in Montreal, both in the pulp and paper division of C.I.L. Inc. I also had hands-on entrepreneurial and business experience, having owned and operated Pizza Delight restaurants for over eight years. I completed the Rotman School of Management’s course on Financial Literacy for Directors as well as Human Resources and Compensation Committee Effectiveness for Directors and completed the 4-part module of the Director Education Program. In July 2011, I received my ICD.D designation granted by the Institute of Corporate Directors, the professional body representing the director community in Canada.
