Monique F. Leroux has enjoyed a remarkable career in Canada’s finance sector. Passionate about leadership, strategy, and growth, she now devotes her time helping the next generation of Chief Executive Officiers and business leaders in creating sustainable impact .An inspiring businesswoman, she forged an exemplary career as Chair of the Board, President and CEO of Desjardins Group in Canada from 2008 to 2016. She guided the Group through the 2008 financial crisis. Under her leadership, Desjardins’ Canadian and international activities experienced strong growth. She also assumed an important leadership role within the global cooperative movement. Recognized for her ethical and creative approach, Ms. Leroux is a corporate director and sits on the boards of Michelin, BCE/BELL and COUCHE-TARD, in addition to chairing Michelin’s CSR Committee and BCE/BELL’s Governance Committee. Ms. Leroux also acts as a consultant for TENEO, contributes to the boards of private companies such as Lallemand and Groupe Lhoist, and is Chair of the Board of LG2. She’s an active mentor in the CMi (Chair Mentors International) network.She is a Companion of the Order of the Canadian Business Hall of Fame (CBHF) and a member of the Investment Industry (IIAC) Hall of Fame and the Canadian Accounting Hall of Fame.Ms. Leroux is a member of the G7 Impact Taskforce (UK) representing Canada. She chaired Canada’s Industry Strategy Council and published a major report entitled “Restart, recover, and reimagine prosperity for all Canadians.” A music enthusiast from an early age, she is Vice-Chair of the Board of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. She also chairs the boards of the Conservatoire de musique et d’art dramatique du Québec and the Université de Sherbrooke. Her exceptional contribution in the business world and at the community level have been recognized with honorary doctorates and distinctions from 12 Canadian universities. She is a Companion of the Order of Canada, an Officer of the Ordre national du Québec, a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur (France) and a recipient of the Woodrow Wilson Award (USA). She’s also a Director Emeritus and former member of the Executive Committee of the Rideau Hall Foundation, and a Fellow of the Quebec Order of CPAs and the Institute of Corporate Directors in Canada. Ms. Leroux has published three books to benefit the Desjardins Foundation.
