The pond re-excavation project, led by the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) in Bangladesh, was a priority initiative supported by the Government of Bangladesh (GoB). The primary aim was to re-excavate 925 ponds, of which 814 ponds were successfully restored. Post-excavation, the construction of Solar Operated Pond Sand Filters (PSFs) ensured the provision of safe drinking water to the local communities.My RoleAs part of the project team, my responsibilities included estimating and costing, and monitoring the project. Below is a detailed description of my contributions:Estimating and Costing• Project Budgeting: I played a critical role in preparing the project budget. This involved calculating the costs associated with the excavation of each pond, the construction of PSFs, and other ancillary costs such as labor, materials, and equipment.• Cost Analysis: Conducted a thorough analysis to ensure cost-effectiveness and efficiency. This included comparing various suppliers, negotiating prices, and selecting cost-efficient methods without compromising quality.• Resource Allocation: Determined the optimal allocation of resources, including financial, human, and material resources, to ensure the project stayed within budget while meeting all objectives.Monitoring• Progress Tracking: Regularly monitored the progress of pond re-excavation and PSF construction. This involved site visits, reviewing progress reports, and ensuring milestones were achieved on time.• Quality Control: Ensured that the excavation and construction works met the required standards and specifications. This included overseeing the quality of materials used and the workmanship.
