As a barista, I refined the ability to collaborate with co-workers and managers to provide excellent customer service while working efficiently under high pressure, fast-paced environments. I also assisted in training new baristas on appropriate work procedures.

I was promoted to the position of laboratory manager after 6 months of working as a research assistant. I managed a team of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral-level research assistants, and streamlined experimental testing and laboratory function through the creation of extensive experimental protocols and laboratory manuals. During my time as manager, I supervised the completion of 6 experimental studies, and assisted in the extension of an NIH R03 grant and submission of an NIH R01 grant. I was also appointed Wellness Chair and responsible for organizing out-of-lab functions that promote healthy habits and encourage good work-life balance such as group workout classes and a philanthropic 5k.

In the REF Laboratory, I performed observational coding of parent-child interactions to determine patterns of emotional dysfunction and regulation within dyads. I was trained on depression screening procedures, EEG caps, and respiratory feedback equipment, as well as assisted in testing an undergraduate sample population in an emotion-alcohol study to determine the relationship between emotion regulation and substance abuse.

As an undergraduate research assistant, I conducted a literature review on the impact of gesture on classroom instruction and presented my results at the University’s Research ShowCASE. I also assisted in creating the experimental design and pilot testing of a single-blind study exploring the impact of gesture during information processing and recall.

As a Technician for the Kern Diabetes Research Laboratory, I administered experimental drug treatments and therapies, delivered daily insulin, monitored blood glucose levels to ensure the health of the laboratory’s 500-700 diabetic mice and rat population. I also assisted in the recruitment and training of new undergraduate technicians and research assistants.
