In-house counsel primarily responsible for day-to-day legal advice and support across a diverse group of companies involving the consumer goods manufacturing industry.I advise on commercial legal matters relating to the Group's day-to-day operations and am accountable for the negotiation, drafting and finalization of all commercial contracts.The role encompasses assisting on all aspects of the group’s operational and commercial dealings, including procurement, supply chain and logistics, retail, commercial leases, intellectual property, data privacy, dispute resolution and consumer protection.

I was a member of the litigation and brand enforcement team at a boutique intellectual property law firm. The role encompassed research (such as trade mark searches and viability reports), drafting of complaints and pleadings, briefing counsel and consulting with clients.I drafted pleadings for trade mark litigation matters lodged at both the Companies Tribunal and the High Court of South Africa. I also regularly drafted, compiled, and lodged company name objections with the Companies Tribunal. Similarly, I dealt with the preparation and lodging of domain name objections, both with the South African Institute of Intellectual Property and the World Intellectual Property Organisation.

As a candidate attorney at this Family Law specialist and general litigation firm, I had various responsibilities, including:- attending to all necessary research, correspondence, the drafting of letters of demand, notices andpleadings as well as corresponding with clients to take instructions, and briefing counsel;- attending to trial preparation for matters heard in both the Magistrates Court and the HighCourt;- court appearances on behalf of clients in the Magistrates Court and the Family Court; and- monitoring the work of junior candidate attorneys, editing and stepping in when required.
