As part of an effort to shed light on current geo-political power dynamics, EEL generates national security articles for publication in international relations magazines and journals. Developing a novel that explores the consequences of a war between the United States and China and the ramifications of long-term political/social polarization on the American democratic experiment. Currently providing national security consulting and strategic expertise to Joint Staff (JS) J7 on Irregular Warfare and Strategic Competition. Recruited by Yale University Jackson Global Institute to design a Capstone course for senior undergraduate students that will prepare them for a career in foreign policy. To facilitate this goal, developed a course titled "Special Operations Forces in Great Power Competition" to educate premiere students how Special Operations Forces can play a role in foreign policy. The course will consider the challenges faced by USSCOCOM, which must simultaneously counter violent extremists and address the actions of nation states that threaten U.S. interests and undermine U.S. global influence. In an environment where nations may cooperate, compete, and enter into conflict with one another, USSOCOM must decide where best to employ SOF unique capabilities to advance and protect select American interests. Which interests, where, and why requires a detailed understanding of global American interests. This is a daunting research problem and the Capstone course students will work in close coordination with USSOCOM strategists, to develop a proposal that details specific American interests and their often-interdependent relationship with other variables. This requires a holistic review of American foreign policy objectives, developing a prioritized list of geographically set – cognitive – and virtual interests, determining their priority by region or domain, and then prioritizing the interests between the regions and domains. The Capstone students will develop a list of vital American interests and present it to USSOCOM leadership to utilize in SOF planning.

Oversaw the development and execution of planning, policy, strategy, future concepts and innovation for a large multifaceted governmental organization; expertly monitored the execution of a $8 million budget. As a senior leader, spearheaded the headquarters and subordinate organizations development of an integrated global Special Operational Forces (SOF) campaign plan supporting current and anticipated policy, capable of driving the resourcing, building and employment of forces in support of the National Defense Strategy. Led the development and implementation of the USSOCOM Commander’s Strategic Guidance that directed specific institutional actions necessary to support ongoing and future SOF operations. To better support plans and strategy, designed, developed, and led the implementation of a strategic analysis and assessment of global SOF operations using scientific methods to understand the environment and measure correlational effects of SOF activities in that environment. Additionally, conceived and guided the development of a process to identify strategic capability gaps, organize action teams to develop solutions, and implement procedures to test and apply solutions necessary to execute future operations. Developed a novel strategic approach for the application of SOF in great power competition that would support policy, the joint force, and inter-agency efforts to advance and protect U.S. national interests. Coordinated with officials at the highest levels of the U.S. Government, Department of Defense, Department of State, Central Intelligence Agency, and the United States Agency for International Development.

Director of Policy, Plans, and Strategy for largest Theater Special Operations Command in the SOF enterprise. Developed an entirely new Theater Campaign plan that included four regional and three functional plans. Supported strategic development of combined, joint, partner, and interagency actions along the periphery of two Combined Joint Operational Areas. Innovated new ways to measure the impact and implications of SOF operations. The combined strategic analysis and assessment process and products developed by the J5 enabled the Commanding General to make more informed operational adjustments and allocate manpower based on measures of “return on investment” of SOF actions.

United States Forces Korea (USFK) J5 Policy's mission is to utilize Command priorities and Department of Defense Strategic goals to shape desired political-military end states in the defense of Korea and to enhance the U.S. strategic stance in the Pacific Theater of Operations. LTC Erfourth leads the J5 Policy team tasked with communicating and coordinating U.S. legal, operational, and political policy objectives related to U.S. military force posture and operational transfer to the ROK Army. Develops products used to prepare the USFK CDR, Office of the Secretary of Defense, and U.S. Embassy for bilateral negotiations with the Republic of Korea (ROK) government/military. Lead agent for Host Nation Notification and Force Management Notification and Consultation with the ROK government. Oversees Alliance Management Committee that identifies progress on U.S. base realignment construction projects and Force Management issues related to operational control transfer to the ROK Army.

Led multi-disciplinary groups in developing, articulating, and evaluating theater and national strategy for counter terrorism on the Arabian Peninsula. Coordinated with elements of national power in design and implementation of security requirements on the Arabian Peninsula, and ensured security efforts supported diplomatic and economic efforts. Advised senior decision-makers on policy and resource options, implications, and risks associated with those strategic choices. Worked directly with U.S. Ambassador in specific countries to coordinate military engagement activities with the local military and ensure U.S. military efforts were in line with National Security Council directives.

Coordinated military logistics in Afghanistan with 42 troop contributing nations. Primary USCENTCOM representative to NATO's contracting agency and liaison with foreign military contributing nations to the mission in Afghanistan. Negotiated and concluded international military to military logistics agreements that act as legal authority to provide reciprocal logistics support between U.S. and coalition forces. Supported development and execution for both security cooperation and operations plans. Coordinated coalition support requirements with Office of the Secretary of Defense, Joint Staff, Defense Agencies, U.S. Ambassadors, and foreign nation's defense ministries. Ensured transactions and payments were properly completed. Acted as principle trainer to the Department of Defense on programs and policies related to coalition logistics support in a combat.

Took one retail store with revenue of $50,000 per year and turned into an S-corporation with annual revenue of more than two million dollars per year. Increased staff from 2 to 25 employees in a span of three years. Diversified and grew from one retail store into in-house production line, four retail stores, small wholesale operation, and internet store front. Expanded product line and developed local wholesale business, selling to cafes, restaurants, and other retail shops. Directed and oversaw financial management, marketing, production, human resources, administrative affairs, suppliers and vendors, cost and growth management. This was accomplished while serving as both a military reservist and subsequent return to active duty.

Undergraduate Instructor and Student Advisor. Instructed undergraduate courses, academic adviser to over 100 students, and student activities director for over 250 students as one of the most senior leaders of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at Jacksonville University. Primary instructor for three undergraduate level courses offered to both NROTC and traditional students. Responsible for developing all course content, syllabus, examinations, and written requirements. Assisted students developing graduation plans, reviewing grades, coordinating tutorial assistance, submitted scholarships for high achievers, and was a member of a disciplinary board for those students not meeting standards. Participated in university faculty meetings, local youth programs sponsored by the university, and fund raising activities.

Responsible for supply operations and related functions of combat unit supply activities. As a supply officer, directly oversaw procurement, receipt of items, accounting, repair facilities, storage, issue, disposal, computation, and maintenance of stock levels. Accountable for more than $40 million of government equipment for three separate Commanding Officers. Directed the activities of a maintenance and transportation organization. Supervised over 500 Marines in the the execution of policies and procedures pertaining to supply, accounting, maintenance, transportation of supplies and equipment, and the collection, safeguarding, and transmittal of public funds. Presided over the budget process and administration and expenditure of allotted funds. Sole advisor on supply related matters to six different commanding officers. Senior Officer in the first major Combat Service Support Battalion into Iraq in 2003 that flowed critical supplies across the battle space in what became the longest operational maneuver in Marine Corps history.
