Profile bio

About Monte Mathis

I have years of experience in computer game testing, customer service, and I'm currently working in retail. My life was interrupted years ago by an illness that messed me up badly. I deal with it, returning to the work force in 2003, but ultimately being ruined a bit in 2010. I began, as I had improved finally, looking for work in 2019 but it took until 2021 to actually land a job. I've also ended up somewhat homeless though I was given a severance package of sorts as I was unloaded without a home. I am currently full time, successfully working, and slowly trying to right my ship and return to a normal everyday life. I have gone from taking my severance package and having no bank account, no credit, a car not in my name, relying upon them for a 3G phone and car insurance to having my own car insurance, I have my own phone, I am full time at an employer, the car is in my name, inspected, and registered, and now I'm looking for an apartment...all while living out of a Studio 6 in North Austin and barely holding on at times. It's costly. Now, if you ask about goals in life, given that my resume explains my work life, I am considered aggressive. Here are my current goals - I currently don't have the money:The "WNBA" Austin VampiresThe "NBA" Austin OverlordsThe "NWSL" Austin ArcadesThe "MLS" Austin Mechs (I am willing to accept two MLS in Austin)The "NFL" Austin ZombiesThe "MLB" Austin BarbariansThe "NHL" Austin PaladinsPound for pound I think those would work and make lots of money. They'd also help generate millionaires and influence many industries in the areas. Not sure how I'm going to get that much money at the moment to get that started. I do also believe in Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. I think all four cities can do all those. As I right my ship, so to speak, I wonder how to get those done. If you expect San Antonio done first, eh, I've never lived there but I have designs. The "WNBA" San Antonio UnicornsI am a Spurs fan, for the record. The "NWSL" San Antonio GeniesThe "MLS" San Antonio HalflingsThe "NFL" San Antonio ElvesThe "MLB" San Antonio DragonsThe "NHL" San Antonio Mariachis Sure, it's a bit zany but, why not? Oh. The "NWSL" Dallas Diamonds, The "WNBA" Houston Werewolves, and The "NHL" Houston Gladiators. I figure, fill it out, get it done. Yeah. Mm. And if I need a moniker "MLS" in Dallas, the best I got is The "MLS" Dallas Scorpions. COVID-19 vaccinated - Moderna, both shots.

Fulfillment Specialist

Current

Cedar Park, Texas, United States

Fulfillment- Primary responsibility is to monitor two queues and pull items ordered online from the store's inventory.- BOPIS (in-store/curbside pickup) has a 45 minute time limit per ticket received and maintaining a sub-45 minute average is asked for.- SFS (ship from store) utilizes USPS, FedEx Ground, and FedEx Express to ship products to customers. - Fluent use in the store's handheld device.- General but overall store memorization is required for better times and faster service. - We use a three look system if a specific item cannot be found. Fulfillment employees are required to push the ticket through the system by keeping up with the ticket and moving it to another person until the item is found or defined as a "short pick." - Short picks are logged by Fulfillment and information is provided to management.- Extreme amounts of walking.- Due to having some muscles I also help with and solo many of the larger items. This has defined and added to my muscular structure. - When needed I do curbside loadouts. I went full time in December. Prior to that, as a part time employee, I worked shifts in Team Sports, Stocking, the Truck, and even helped at another store twice. I also did two overnight shifts in October of 2021 to help with Inventory. I've since been put on one of the rotations and I close five nights a week. Neat'O: The Cedar Park Fulfillment crew finished November of 2021 number 5 in the region and number 1 in Austin, Texas. The region includes over 100 stores and includes Houston, San Antonio, College Station, and Corpus Christi. At one point in December of 2021 we had climbed to number 3 in the region.Minor: Help with sales when it happens. I had one where I helped bring down one Igloo cooler. By the time we were done he bought the cooler, a large deer feeder, a two seater hunting stand, and lots of deer corn. About a $1000 sale. I even did the loadout myself after getting all the deer corn on a flatbed cart.

Load all shipments needed and coordinate with multiple trucks arriving in the afternoon.- Maintain cleanliness of the warehouse area assigned.- Data Entry: enter all packing lists, concerning PO #, received in Oracle driven software and pass stack along the chain of data entry.- I was asked to "recycle" good condition boxes for our own uses and look for quality pallets as well.Inside Sales- PD Blower Specialist (positive displacement blowers).- Respond professionally to all inquiries concerning bare blowers and work out a quote in a quick fashion that contains the actual price and honest lead time (availability) of said equipment.- Use Gardner Denver software to provide actual availability of out of stock items and lead times from the manufacturer.- Monitor fax machine for quote requests.- Get POs.- Create Sales Order, establish shipping requirements per customer instructions.- Process Sales Order upon physical shipment of equipment for Billing.- In this role I also was asked to maintain a heavy amount of data entry for Accounts Receivable, I was asked to be a Procurement Agent for several projects in the fab, and on top of being a Runner here and there I was also the phone Receptionist for several months.Outside Sales- Briefly. This required visiting potential customers. My territory was 1/3 of Texas. I've visited many waste water facilities due to this position. I did get new sales. I returned to Inside.

Jan 2008 - Jan 2010

Lawn Technician

Pflugerville, Texas, United States

Scotts Lawn Service, a Scotts MiracleGro Company, merged with TruGreen in 2016 or so and no longer exists. The Pflugerville facility serviced Austin and its outlying areas.Lawn Technician- Start time 6:30 AM, efficiently route day's packet of tickets using MapsCo book, and leave fully loaded for the day by 7:15 AM.- Efficiently maintain as best one can a 3 yard or more per hour average.- Knock/ring, greet and discuss if anybody is home, and apply fertilization treatments concerning season, turf type, and special seasonal treatments. Use Scotts' practices to ensure full turf coverage. Systematically apply spot treatment weed control after fertilization, look for troubled spots, write note, provide tips and anything noticed, and tag the door. - Achieve weekly goal and surpass if possible. Scotts paid using the Green Formula: base salary + 7% commission for everything over weekly goal + overtime rate prorated in a formula that punishes for lots of overtime and very little excess commission and rewards for small amounts of overtime and lots of commission achieved. - I was required to do $1250 a day (minus Saturdays).- Upon return to branch, managing one's day alone in the company vehicle, clean the vehicle and restock all fertilizer (50 lb. bags) and liquid products. - Calculate and turn in packet, get reviewed by Service Manager, and then do all Call Backs for one's territory. NOTE: Scotts required 6 day work weeks for the entire growing season both years I was there. Austin's growing season is March 1 to October 31. Saturdays were considered "short days." An average day had me doing over 20 yards and with Service Calls (free spot checking) often over 25 stops.Achievements: My first territory was nearly last in customer retention. It was third, behind the affluent territories, after my first season. I also was often in the Top 25 nationally for weekly/bi-weekly bring home. I was also mostly solid muscle after my first year.

Feb 2006 - Dec 2007

Delivery Driver

Round Rock, Texas, United States

Delivery Driver- Enter store, take next order in line, check order for accuracy (unless told otherwise by a manager, like, "take it and go! I checked it myself,") use map book to route, and deliver order. - Return immediately to store and repeat.- Maintain a petty cash packet for cash orders, change, receipts, and turn it in without over/under problems.- Help roll pickle packs during down times. I delivered food p/t in the evenings originally. It was my second job. I was working a UPS Christmas Season Driver Helper position in the mornings and early afternoons when I took this job. I kept it after Christmas and did more hours but remained part time.

Nov 2005 - Feb 2006

Ups Christmas Season Driver Helper

Ups

Austin, Texas, United States

Christmas Season Driver Helper- Park at agreed upon business parking lot on time and meet the UPS driver and truck.- Assist with delivering multiple packages, finding packages and assisting the unload process, and help maintain a brisk pace.- Get dropped off in the early afternoon. This was a strictly seasonal job. In fact I had to show up at the Austin hub and turn in my uniform, along with everybody else, to get my final paycheck. My assigned route was for Pflugerville and Round Rock, Texas.

Oct 2005 - Dec 2005

Overnight Pm Tech / Shipping & Receiving + Inventory Clerk

Round Rock, Texas, United States

Stores (Shipping & Receiving + Inventory Clerk)- Mild warehouse environment attached to a clean room semiconductor fab. Used "grey areas" for drop offs into the clean room environment.- Receive all scheduled daily UPS and FedEx drop offs, confirm receipt of package numbers, and unbox, verify Packing List contents, and stage, deliver, or stock items. - Monitor the printer for fab orders and the two daily chemical orders into the clean room environment.- Create all outgoing packages using Shipping Order, follow best lot shipment guidelines, stickers on boxes, and stage for scheduled late afternoon FedEx and UPS pickups. - Enter all Packing List materials received via PO # in Oracle driven accounting software.- Very light on LTL and forklift use but there was a weekly chemical shipment of drums and pallets of chemicals.- Enter all received inventory orders for the day into the system.- Cycle count common goods and do full inventory quarterly cycle counts.- I personally was required to create lots of small sized wafers in the fab, during free time, from packets of wafers delivered in stacks.- I applied at Cypress, I interviewed with a Cypress manager, I was hired, and upon arriving for my start date I was informed I was an On-Point contractor. I spent 13 months in Stores as a contractor. Overnight PM Tech- Clean room environment. 4 days on, 3 days off, 3 days on, 4 days off, 12 hour shifts. Mandatory overtime was commanded right as I took this position and I never got 4 days off. - I was assigned Photo/Etch. My job was to monitor an allotment of tools for scheduled (usage driven) down time by which I would do a PM. - PMs are checklist driven preventative maintenance procedures where the tool is cleaned, wearable parts are replaced, and the tool/machine is then checked for nominal operation performance. We also had tools that overflowed in chemical "goo" and had to be cleaned weekly. - I was a Cypress employee as a PM Tech.

Mar 2004 - Sep 2005

Computer Builder

Pflugerville, Texas, United States

Spherion Contractor @ Dell (quarter to quarter basis hiring practices)Computer Builder- 10 hour shifts, 4 days on, 3 days off, second shift.- Approximately 7 to 8 hours of build, 1 hour working network installation, and 1 hour working case cleaning and stickers.- Learn 4 to 5 chassis and produce a 12 to 15 unit per hour average (15 per hour was the gold mark). The chassis I remember are the Jazz, Umlaut, the Skydive, and the Devastator. NOTE: The Devastator took approximately 45 minutes to build and was rarely seen thusly rarely memorized. NOTE: Dell's challenge was to build a Skydive in 4 minutes or less. I got there. - When required we did have to work 5 days on, then 6 days on, and then 7 days on with no days off.- Strictly quarter to quarter basis. Head count shrunk per shift deeply at the opening of each quarter. It would swell as the quarter deepened. - The humor of this job is there was a cherry picking method by which one could monitor the conveyor belt and manipulate your send-out button for a finished build so that you landed a smaller, faster to build, chassis. I ended up eating a lot of Skydives due to the common use of that tactic. The less than humorous reality is that Dell's management used worksheets with stickers you put on it for each build to tally your production. There were sticker thieves here and there that had pockets of stickers to produce "15 done" just before management count. It was quite odd. I avoided those tactics personally. - On your feet the entire shift. No chairs. PLEASE NOTE: My start and finish dates are going to get slightly ball-park at this point as I don't remember the exact start dates and don't have it recorded. It's ball-park accurate however.

Sep 2003 - Dec 2003

Back Cash Operator / Order Taker / Dishwasher

Pflugerville, Texas, United States

Lobby Order Taker & Register Worker- Greet customer and take their order.- Always recommend Biggie Size if combo is ordered and size is unspecified.- Make drinks. Do not touch the food. Monitor trays to notify waiting customers when order is complete.- During lulls immediately begin cleaning tables, chairs, booths, checking salt and pepper shakers for product, and cleaning up any messes and trash left behind. Return to register, after washing hands, upon any line forming again.- I was a lunch rush specialist. - Dry washed trays and apply paper coverings.Back Cash Operator/Order Taker/Dishwasher- During primary hours of the lunch rush I took cash and credit payments at the first window. Wendy's employed a desire for 60 seconds or less drive thru experiences. I was asked to calculate "common change" and have the change in my hand ready to hand off if they paid with bills only. - I was, at first, responsible for heating the bread and keeping the bread stocked for the sandwich makers. This was changed at one point to dishes. - Around 1:30 PM I would take over order taking for the rest of my shift, including into the evenings, and was the money handler.- Responsible for all post-lunch-rush dishes. Large task.- Helped prep for chili (grill workers handled the meat part).- Stocked stations.- Took out the trash.- Swept floors.- Cleaned and wrapped potatoes.- Worked fry vat.We were an extremely busy lunch rush store. Commonly we'd have cars wrapped around the building and a lobby line that snaked all the way to the farthest entry door. As a part time employee I was not guaranteed any hours and max hours was 36. I spent about 8 months maxed at 36 hours due to the positive impact I made.I did take the entry level management test. I got a 100/100 and even wrote in an answer due to a mistaken metric system group of answers being on the test. I was passed over. The test was based upon the 300+ page Wendy's Operation Manual.

Jan 2003 - Sep 2003

Uo Live Game Tester / Senior Game Master

Austin, Texas, United States

ORIGIN SYSTEM, INC. (an EA company). Ultima Online Game Master (Online CS Problem Solver)- Queue worker. The queue was for in-game issues and not RPG characters or game tutelage.- I was a GM that worked two queues at the same time regularly before the "universal" U.S. queue was implemented.- The other responsibility was email. We did answer all questions in email unlike the queue. Once proficient I could do 400 emails in a 10 hour shift. The inbox was usually at 1500+ emails and a 7+ day turn around. - I went from temp to perm as a Game Master.I spent 6 months overhauling the "canned response/macro" library so that it answered the complicated assortment of repeat questions accurately (if used right). Once done our inbox was such that a morning shift Game Master would answer an email within minutes of its arrival. I also was awarded a Lord British Award for my work efforts as an Overnight GM. Senior Game Master- I was, according to the supervisor Eva, the "inspiration" for the Senior Game Master position.- The role was primarily account review procedures concerning policy breakers and harassment. Heavy account documentation to prove the reasons for account actions. Policies were driven by UO Live Management. UO Live QA Game Tester- I worked on post-release UO: Renaissance as the box shipped without everything listed on it in the add-on and UO: Third Dawn. - Testing involved going over specific systems and looking for problems and ensuring proper functionality. - We used an internal database for bug reports, development responses, and fix confirmation or fix failed. - I ran a team of temp testers for a few months. We did more testing than others.Old school Origin QA valued the repeatable crasher as the number one bug to find. I found at least 2 in my time on UO Live as a Game Tester. Game Master Names Operated Under: GM Squishy, GM Stoneburner, GM GenaroEvening Shift GM Team Name Winner: Team Ouroboros

Jun 1999 - Apr 2001

Qa Lead Tester

Digital Anvil

Austin, Texas, United States

I was the Lead Tester on Conquest. Conquest was in really early Alpha stages and not progressing much at all. There were bugs. I found at least 1 repeatable crasher. Before I left it was announced that all games were two years behind schedule and the company was not quite three years old yet from my understanding. I'm not sure what that was. I was head hunted, they called me not vice versa, and I was told they had four ready to go hot and heavy products that were shipping in various quarters all the way to Christmas of 1999. I was supposed to crank on Conquest, ship it, roll to the next, ship it, roll, ship it, and roll...or something like that. Conquest was ultimately scrapped, sold off, and UbiSoft published it as Conquest: Frontier Wars. Nothing shipped in 1999. I left for private reasons, nothing personal, and would have stayed had those things not come up...assuming I still had a job in 1999. This was before Digital Anvil became a Microsoft Studio.I have heard, as it was decided by "peers," that I "can't handle games." My personal reasons had nothing to do with games. Also those "peers" have been terminated more than once since then for delinquent job responsibilities at various game companies. Just felt like pointing that out.

Jun 1998 - Nov 1998

Qa Game Tester / Cs Tech Support Rep

Austin, Texas, United States

ORIGIN SYSTEMS, INC. (an EA company). CS Tech Support - Answer queue calls, enter personal information into database, PC system specs, and assist customers with technical issues so as to resolve them and get their game up and running.- Most calls centered around creating an MS-DOS boot disk to free up Basic Memory while loading needed device drivers. - I got most of my customers up and running. I was complimented more than once by management for my database details.QA Game Tester- Game stages observed: Alpha, Beta, Final, and Gold (ship).- Testing was a mix of following checklists concerning common areas and systems of the game, per version, and "generalized" play testing. This involved simply playing the game, playing it again, and again, and trying out everything under the sun in it. - Bug tracking database system to report bugs, document location, and provide step by step instructions for repeating it. We could define the bug's priority and other needed details. - Monitor database for Fixes and confirm/fix-failed.The process is a chaotic and systematic attempt to go over the entire game again and again and again until it ships to market.Games Tested: Cybermage: Darklight Awakening, Ultima VIII: Pagan Patch (only Lisa, Harvey, Jonathan, and I, maybe Rhea), Wing Commander IV, Crusader PSX, Wing Commander: Kilrathi Saga, WCIV Win95, Crusader: No Regret, Privateer 2: The Darkening (uncredited), ATF Gold, Ultima Online, Longbow 2, F-15.#1 bug=repeatable crasher. Many find 0. I found repeatable crashers on Cybermage (many), Crusader PSX (1), WC: K'Saga (1), Privateer 2 (1), Ultima Online (many), Longbow 2 (4 in first week. L2 went into a code rewrite), F-15 (2). I led in bug count on Cybermage. I was one of two testers with over 1000 bugs on UO.Call Sign: Captain Squishy Nickname Earned: MonsterI was the "acting" QA APL for Cybermage & the "acting" QA PL for Ultima IX: Ascension before leaving. No pay/title bump.

Almost all beyond the norm contacts are handled by the ASM.- The ASM is responsible for running front end breaks and lunches as well as making sure people are returning on time.- Each shift has responsibilities (morning, mid day, evening) and failure truncates into the next shift.- The ASM must also assist with packaging groceries, monitor store cleanliness, and also forego the help desk and get on a register when rushes are relentless. - All price checks go through the ASM. UPC Coordinator- My primary job was to get the tags for the new sales week, begin around 7 PM, rip up the perforated sheets, sort by aisle, and then spend an overnight shift removing old sales tags, putting up new sales tags, and also changing out tags where the prices changed. This shift always went beyond dawn and could last until 10 AM.- I drove to Bee Caves weekly to pick up the tags - from N. 183.- I was responsible for correct prices ringing up.- For some reason it was forced upon me that I do Back Door Receiving on Saturdays. Start time was 5:30 AM. I was also doing mid day shifts as a Grocery Stocker. This pretty much trashed me in a couple of months. No OT.
