About Monte Peake

Over twenty years of experience in the environmental consulting and engineering field. With a strong emphasis on health and safety, supervised and monitored contractors on work sites and served as safety officer for the office and field employees. Involved with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Corrective Action Programs, State Voluntary Cleanup Programs (VCPs), Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), and Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP). Projects have been performed for private, commercial, industrial and government properties and facilities, both active and abandoned. Contaminated media and data analysis have included soil, groundwater, surface water and air. In general, the main contaminants of concern have included heavy metals, volatile organics (including halogenated solvents), semi-volatile organics, Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB's) and low-level radioactive contamination. Various field experience includes soils logging, monitoring well installations and sample collection (soil, water and air). Office responsibilities as a technical writer have included the preparation of site investigation work plans, site investigation reports, remedial work plans, closure reports, and RCRA hazardous waste reports. Proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, ArcGIS, GIS/Key and other specialized technical software programs and production of numerous maps, figures and data analysis used for reporting and other purposes. Specialties: I have been involved in the investigation and cleanup of several Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) sites. MGPs were built in the late 1800s and early to mid-1900s to produce gas used as an energy source before electricity, natural gas and propane became widely available for use across the US. There are some third-world countries that still utilize this type of technology.

Obtained environmental closure letters for multiple sites. Managed operation and maintenance of a Groundwater Containment System (GCS) and a wastewater treatment system at two different facilities. The GCS was designed to treat a specific plume of chemical contamination by pumping water through an air stripper. The treated water would then be discharged to a permitted storm-water runoff ditch. The wastewater treatment system collected storm-water and rail yard train maintenance waste liquids into a catch basin before being pumped through Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) unit that separated the oil and grease into holding tanks that were then recycled. The separated water would then go to a Metropolitan Sewer District plant located nearby for further processing. Both systems used automation control systems to operate the treatment equipment. Served as Safety Officer for the office and field workers providing personal monitoring and assistance for health and safety purposes in the field and for corporate reporting and auditing purposes. Responsible for state and commercial environmental projects, throughout the Midwest, including proposal preparations and presentations. Project experience includes environmental assessments, work plans, investigation activities, remediation oversight, and post-remedial activities in compliance with federal and state government programs (MDNR, IEPA, USEPA, etc.).
