I went into nursing because of how a nurse once helped me. I was a scared kid alone in the hospital. She breezed in and performed her nursing skills intelligently, confidently, and calmly. She smiled at me and cracked a joke and I knew I was going to be alright. I graduated my nursing degree 4 years later. I now have over 12 years of registered nursing experience, with a deep focus on oncology. I moved through Radiation Therapy, Medical Oncology and Clinical Trials, and I'm now with a pharmaceutical Patient Support Program. These experiences have given me different valuable perspectives of our health care system and cancer treatments. The Cancer Society says 1 in 2 Canadians will face a cancer diagnosis, so I'm here to be a part of the evolving science, improving treatments, and patient support.
