A harsh reality of combat is the lack of available blood to treat soldiers injured in battle. That’s why my partners and I ideated and translated our concept for rugged, mobile, and battery-operated refrigerators for temperature-controlled blood products for use on battlefields and in other extreme settings. Our concept advanced through the three phases of the stringent Small Business Innovative Research program—a major accomplishment—and resulted in the award of four provisional patents and manufacture of our high-quality, American-made product. We pride ourselves on adhering to the highest possible standards for medical device companies as part of our push toward commercial sales to early adopters, such as the U.S. Department of Defense. As part of product development, I also present and win buy-in for “push the envelope” changes as part of my quest to counter challenges to deliver revolutionary products.

I trained law enforcement agencies nationwide on large-scale military exercises, combat casualty care, hostage rescue, active shooter situations, and search and rescue missions. My clients included U.S. Customs and Border Patrol as well as U.S. Marshals requiring consults on high-risk operations. As a recognized subject matter expert (SME), I taught consequence management, high-threat extrication, rope rescue, rescue craft, and tactical combat casualty care to policing agencies in the U.S. and Canada.

The University engaged me to mentor and coach commissioned officers in the Senior Reserve Officer Training Corps through both academic and experiential training. One of my most impactful contributions was to change the curriculum to an outcomes-based, scenario-driven model that strengthened the mental agility and decision-making capabilities of participants—a component now considered fundamental to the training program. Other achievements include coaching the University’s ranger challenge competition team to two regional championships, launching an annual on-site JROTC drill competition, and introducing a program that sent cadets to local high schools to speak about college readiness.

The trainings I delivered heightened the critical thinking and life-or-death, decision-making skills of a 500-person team learning to navigate the unpredictability of combat during a mission in Afghanistan. I supplemented this instruction with training on collapse structure and high-angle team rescues during chemical, biological, and nuclear warfare (CBRN) missions.

I provided team leadership, combat operations planning, and advanced tactical medical care during multiple deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt, and Kuwait. I also leveraged my technical and marksmanship skills to train U.S. and local military on firearms handling in combat scenarios and tactical combat casualty care. As Human Intelligence, Advanced Special Operations Techniques Level III (HUMINT ASOT Level 3) Manager, I applied my specialized knowledge and training to collect and analyze intelligence for Special Forces combat operations.
