Role: Responsible for driving an environmental approach that is integral to supply chain business objectives and which adheres to Sainsbury's CSR agenda.Key achievements:Drove efficiency: through environmental goals ensuring a sustainable approach to environmental management, including delivering savings, as well risk avoidance resulting from legal non complianceEnsured environmental targets were embedded into the divisions agenda, regularly monitored and managed as business as usual, ensuring that environmental considerations are taken into account in business decisions. This included influencing and engaging with senior management to understand the environmental agenda.Developed Environmental Management System (accredited to ISO14001) for the logistics network to ensure a credible, proactive and consistent approach to both business as usual activities as well as long-term environmental strategy. Creating a culture of continuous improvement all areas have improve dramatically, driving a competitive edge as well as measurable KPI improvements.Benchmarking: Driving improvement through benchmarking policy and performance.Superb Working relationships: including external organisations such as BSI, DEFRA, Environment Agency, Freight Transport Association. Sat on various steering groups/advisory boards including IEMA, FTA Carbon Working Group, Department of Transports Quiet Deliveries Demonstration Scheme helping to drive change through influencing policy development. Supplier Management: Managed the tendering of key environmental contracts (waste management, spill management, water sampling) to drive improvement in service and cost. Communications: acting as spokesperson externally and internally, including speaking at conferences, authoring articles and responding to press/regulatory queries in an open and constructive manner.
