Compliance & Administration
Private Tutor
I started private tutoring in Rochester, NY and have now moved this practice to New York, NY providing educational support for middle school, high school, and college math courses, science courses, reading, and writing. In addition, I specialize in test preparation for Regents, AP courses, SAT, SAT II, and ACT as well as developing general test-taking skills. Interfacing with students, parents, teachers, and counselors, I work to develop personalized study plans based on individual learning styles, then improve material understanding, performance, and testing/problem-solving strategies through in-person and distance-learning sessions. My goal is to create an action plan for every student and re-assess and track their progress with every session in order to maximize success. Sessions are held in-person and online.
General & Special Education Instructor
Teacher and tutor for one-on-one individualized instruction and small group settings in a unique alternative educational environment designed to foster a productive, open, and cultivating relationship with the district's most troubled, unhealthy, and high-risk students. I worked with students in math courses, science courses, Health, business, and GED/TASC preparation. This alternative program was kept separate from the mainstream population of students and therefore required workers to fulfill multiple roles in addition to educator. Each educator was given a range of both teaching and administrative responsibilities for each student. Educational roles included completely generating all class educational and testing material per student needs and managing compliance with and accommodation of 504 plans, Individualized Education Programs, and special needs programs (long-term tutoring) to keeping students up to date with normal class progress so they can return to classes after short-term tutoring. Each student's attendance, progress, grades, and behavior were monitored and documented each session using self-generated spreadsheets; scheduling was also organized by educators. Substantial communication was maintained between school administrators, teachers, parents, students, counselors, social workers, and probation officers in order to keep each student on track; every involved member was updated about student progress and attendance and compliance with individual special needs plans. In addition, Alternative Education/Tutoring Center duties included answering phone calls and providing information to callers, maintaining proper filing while updating student attendance records and grade records, keeping collaborative work space tidy, and ensuring supplies of materials were available as needed.
Study Center Administrator & Teaching Assistant
Responsible for direct instruction of students and management of the study center for an advanced individualized-instruction (no-lecture) biochemistry course, in which students learned via textbook and teaching assistant explanation. I mentored student progress through teaching and review of material as well as proctoring, grading, and analysis review of student exams to ensure accurate and complete understanding of material throughout the course. TAing required strict adherence to student grade confidentiality and demanded a professional demeanor in handling and calming disgruntled and upset students for this very high-stress course. Administrative duties encompassed operation, record-keeping, and organization of the course's student study center. This included answering phone and providing callers with information, supervising front desk, greeting and assisting visitors to center (main desk reception as well as rotating throughout room to check in on students), documentation and filing of student records, and maintaining a clean, organized, and well-supplied front desk, study space, and testing space.
Behavioral Research Assistant
Investigated a novel approach to the elucidation of territorial behavior of wild male mockingbirds. Formulated and instituted new techniques pioneering mockingbird behavioral study, and identified and solved design flaws in original research methodology on-the-spot to streamline project and improve data quality and relevancy. Served an integral role in in-the-field data collection and organization, logging multiple simultaneous records of data of meticulous written reports, visual observations, and audio-collections. Mastered use of complex recording equipment in varied environments, assisted in capturing and tagging of wild birds, and performed any other tasks as necessary.
Administrative Assistant & Event Coordinator
Worked as both an administrative assistant at the front desk of the CHESS laboratory and assisted in the organization and development of programming for a series of workshops for which cutting-edge particle physics researchers gathered to share new findings and discuss current work. Reception responsibilities included assisting visitors and directing visitors, answering phone and redirecting calls, taking messages, accepting mail and packages, and event preparation responsibilities.Concurrent with administrative role was organization and scheduling, design and creation of event information materials, setup for event, production of workshop displays. For the duration of the workshops, responsibilities were primarily coordination of workshop events and participants (including managing participant pickup and travel between activities), reception and visitor assistance at workshops event, management and oversight of event progress and participant needs, and construction and deconstruction of daily displays and presentations.
Clinical Neurophysiology Research Intern
Conducted research and analysis on early models of an innovative experimental computer simulation program intended to accurately assess cognitive functioning levels known to deteriorate with onset of Alzheimer's, and thus become the first earliest detection system available in diagnosing the disease. Collaborated with University of Rochester Professor Dr. Charles Duffy, Alzheimer's researcher and co-owner in the start-up company, Cerebral Assessment Systems, which was partnered with Lifetime Care to complete this venture. Technical analysis of the program consisted of repeatedly running through multiple trials of simulations, compiling results, scrutinizing the software's functioning, capabilities, and limitations, identifying and removing bugs, and streamlining the prototype into an improved, user-friendly interface. Tasked with conducting cognitive tests on potential participants then administering the simulation in order to gather statistical information and analyze results of program to determine efficiency, refine trial methodology, and troubleshoot design errors.
