About Morgan Sayers
I am an interdisciplinary artist and educator with formal training and practice in both studio and hybrid arts with a background in museum education, museum visitor experience and engagement, communications, exhibition design, and curating. In all realms of my work and life, I create experiences that engage students and the public to foster a sense of belonging. I work collaboratively with artists, educators, and members primarily of the South Side of Chicago community as an activist using art as a conduit to search for innovative ways to talk about racism, ask questions, find solutions, and deepen relationships.Outside of museums and classrooms, my unique combination of skills in both traditional and contemporary methods of making, designing, and educating has led me to create a portfolio of work that often uses media but is ultimately devoted to craft and the balance of process and concept in both two and three-dimensional realms.Specialties: •Experienced educator using museums as classrooms •Skilled curriculum developer •Knowledge of best practices in interpretation and touring techniques •Organized project coordinator, accustomed to working with outside contractors, photographers, conservators, fellow educators, publishers, etc. •Experience with leading and managing a diverse public-facing team •Strong management of the hiring, scheduling, training, and mentoring of teams •Exceptional interpersonal skills

Part-Time Lecturer, Visual Arts & Design
Modern And Contemporary Art Professor / Career Prep Professor
Wrote, designed, and developed the Modern & Contemporary Art curriculum for SAE Institute Chicago and customized that curriculum for SAE Institute North America. I have also created the first student art gallery at SAE Chicago, the first and only art gallery on any SAE campus in North America. My students are audio engineers, most of whom are the first people in their families to earn a degree, have very little to no support at home. It is absolutely essential for them to have trust in me as an educator, a leader, and as a fellow artist, and for me to make these courses fun, interactive, relevant, and inspiring. I am consistently leveraging my artistic and professional networks to create student experiences such as field trips to museums and galleries across Chicago, visiting artists, collaborative and activist projects, and workshops. As a result of the trust I have earned, I have become a mentor to many of my students in their postgraduate lives.
Communications Coordinator
Guest Services Coordinator
Museum Educator
Lead Teaching Artist
Lead Teaching Artist for the Smart Museum’s flagship summer ‘22 teen program. In this role I thought broadly about teen engagement at the Smart Museum and participated as a teaching artist to conceive, plan, coordinate, and facilitate teen programming. Artwork and ideas were informed by engagements with artists Rick Lowe, Pugs Atomz, EDO, Amber Ginsburg, and Theaster Gates’ studio; curators Laura Steward and Abby Winograd; visiting lectures provided by DreamWakers with Alorie Clark, Paris Premdas, Chris Beard, and Gambriel Wills; site visits to the Logan Center for the Arts, Arts Incubator, Museum of Contemporary Art, Stony Island Arts Bank, and Boxville; and an exploration of ceramicist Ruth Duckworth. We explored process-based art making, activist art, found objects and materials, clay as a democratic medium, Afrofuturism, community empowerment, financial literacy, and more!During this 6 week period, I planned and facilitated daily meetings with AmeriCorps VISTA interns, university undergraduate interns, and teen Public Practice Interns; supervised individual intern work that transpired between meetings; coordinated with members of the Public Practice team to complete projects; and helped to represent the program through event development, stewardship, and publications.
Gallery Assistant
Assisted the Vice President at Joel Oppenheimer Inc., a renowned fine art gallery and art conservation/restoration laboratory. My role at Joel Oppenheimer Inc. was best defined as the conduit through which the communication between the gallery, the frame shop, the laboratory, and the client all ran. I was most oftentimes the first and last person our clients spoke with during the process. In short, I coordinated and managed a complex system and calendar of all aspects of the process from intake, to the timely return of the art to its owner all while carrying out the duties at the gallery from handling and hanging artwork to planning opening receptions, to meeting with prospective buyers. Each day involved working and communicating with coworkers, artists, dealers, galleries, museums, vendors, art collectors, tourists, and the general public from all across the globe. The ability to communicate verbally and in writing with an incredibly wide range of people was an absolute necessity.
