I manage a range of projects for UnboundEd (formerly Pivot Learning) in the Strategic Initiatives, Innovation portfolio, including launching an online learning course in Spanish focused on early grade reading development for families of multilingual learners, leading our CalCurriculum partnership to support districts and charters across California, creating a tool to enable California districts measure ease of implementation with their instructional materials, publishing a set of case studies on instructional materials implementation, and representing our organization in a statewide advocacy coalition.

Pivot Learning, CORE Learning, and UnboundEd merged under the UnboundEd banner, and my work in this role has now continued as part of the UnboundEd team.

Serve as grade level Reading lead and co-own planning and modification of lessons and instruction for Humanities. Shifted to fully remote instruction for the spring of 2020 and entire school year of 2020-21, leading a remote homeroom in all subject areas and daily reading intervention group through Zoom. Plan and lead guided reading instruction daily to target individual student reading growth goals. Maintain strong attendance and family satisfaction through close family partnerships and weekly communication on student progress in English & Spanish.

Led daily instruction in all subjects for a first grade homeroom, including students at English Language Development Levels 1 and 2, and on Individualized Education Plans. Planned core Cognitively Guided Instruction math curriculum for the grade level. Analyzed and responded to reading, writing, math, and word study assessment data on a weekly basis. Led Dovetail & Responsive Classroom-based social-emotional skill curricula and community building. Communicated regularly in English & Spanish with families about student progress.

Led project management of two new network programs: the Benchmark Assessments for all network schools and Dean Preparation Academy, a new leadership pipeline development program designed to train aspiring Deans of Students and Deans of Curriculum & Instruction for network schools. Developed knowledge management structures, progress-monitoring processes, and planning tools for network Academic Team. Coordinated pilot of network-wide student and family survey on school environment, instruction, family engagement, and social-emotional learning development. Developed and implemented audit process to evaluate compliance with student discipline regulations.

Worked with both the Operations & Data/Impact teams on various operations initiatives for the Home Office and across Partnership schools, including overseeing the design, administration, analysis, and dissemination of Partnership Feedback Survey of school staff and organizing communications, strategy, and monitoring efforts for collection of household income forms for the network. Produced monthly progress monitoring tools on academic leading indicators, school budgets, and operations initiatives for principals and Partnership home office staff using Tableau, Microsoft SQL, and Microsoft Access. Led staff feedback process for annual network key strategy selection and participated in network-level performance management committee.

Managed the Buddy Reading research project, a randomized control trial study that evaluated peer-to-peer learning strategies for reading development in 101 primary schools in the South Coast of Kenya. Recruited, trained, and managed a staff of 32 Field Assistants for endline data collection and data entry of two rounds of observation data. Piloted and revised new program questionnaire and focus group protocol in schools. Achieved a 94.5% follow-up rate within a 5-week timeframe for all pupils in the one-year study. Following study completion, remotely managed two Kenyan staff leading data examination and cleaning efforts for the baseline and endline student databases of two conjoined education studies focused on primary literacy. Using STATA, cleared all original error queries, replaced missing data, and completed full cleaning for analysis.

Reviewed literature on culturally adapted best practices for creating and sustaining equity in the classroom and worked with a team to build a comprehensive report on findings as part of a UNICEF global initiative for teachers.

Researched and wrote memo for country offices on best practices in teaching reading to second language learners, including a guide on creation and use of teaching-learning materials in low-resource primary school classrooms. Developed example lesson plans for phonemic awareness, vocabulary development, fluency, and reading comprehension.

Taught 4th grade class in all subjects as part of Elementary Teacher Preparation Program for licensure. Created Social Studies and Language Arts unit on immigration in North Carolina.

Designed, carried out and analyzed a research project examining the success of the AGSP in improving access, retention and completion within primary schools in Burundi, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Kenya.
