Working on-site to boost sales within a new, independently owned cafe. Improving product presentation as well as quality, alongside doing inventory and maintaining standards from open-close on a weekly basis.

Currently working with the Sustainability Department as a Green Impact Project Assistant to raise awareness regarding the social enterprise Change Please. Our aim is to increase attention to the benefits of every purchase with this cafe rather than typical corporations.

At Kagen, I have been one of the primary closers. Responsibilities have included closing with new employees, stocking and keeping the floor maintained, preparing food and beverages, and closing the tills at the end of the night. I also work open to close every Sunday, so I have experience opening as well. Customer engagement is absolutely necessary at this local restaurant, and customers love staying engaged!

Being in a corporation setting is much more rigorous compared to local businesses. While working on the floor, my position duties would change several times throughout the shift, and I would typically work 8 hour shifts to close. I was in the process of learning supervisor procedures, such as counting inventory at the end of the night, taking milk temps, depositing tips, all while closing the store.

While working for a local coffee chain, there was a lot expected from long-time employees. I was responsible for charging several new employees on drinks and closing procedure, as well as always focusing on customer engagement. As a lead closer, I closed the tills at the end of every night, and was also in charge of ordering and keeping track of stock.

This job includes being on your feet and active for multiple hours at a time. I did daily recovery, which involved keeping a certain department clean and organized while also working the register when needed. If necessary, I was also required to cover shifts in jewelry and fitting room. I had volunteered to come in early for a few weekend mornings to continue recovering the sales floor, and sending out new shipment merchandise.

I was required to complete all of the tasks possible in the store, except for deliveries. Customer service was essential to this job, especially when it came to working the register and answering phones. Training was very fast-paced, so you had to memorize the menu within a few days of starting.
