Director Of Audience Development
CurrentAs the lead of the Audience Development team, my role fits that familiar pattern of bouncing between strategic work and helping with day-to-day coverage and post creation. Broadly, my role is to expand our audience on-site and across platforms, in part to develop the means for us to monetize and make our outreach to those audiences sustainable. How that manifests itself in the day-to-day can drastically differ. One day, it's all about auditing the performance of categories and topics to identify SEO strengths and opportunities and reporting that to leadership. The next day, it's editing scripts, helping with queues and tweaking graphics. The most visible of the projects I've been involved in is of course the recent redesign of TechCrunch, but the less visible wins add up to really move the needle. I'm glad to have the opportunity to help TechCrunch weather the storm facing all publishers in this moment, from our adoption of longer-term search approaches, investing in developing team members, migrating to better tools and sharing information from them and beyond. Sometimes that means auditing a H1's traffic, and sometimes that means writing the event wrapper that'll be guaranteed to hit the newsbox!
