I was one of ten course instructors at the 42nd Annual Mississippi Governor’s School. “For two weeks each June, MGS invites rising high school juniors and seniors from all over the state to the campus of Mississippi University for Women. During their time in the program, MGS scholars take rigorous interdisciplinary courses, engage in team building exercises, and create lifelong friendships and memories.” -MGS websiteIn this role, I was responsible for designing and teaching one of the interdisciplinary courses. I also joined for many additional events such as Saturday of Service.My course introduced scholars to the vast world of tabletop gaming. They learned about game mechanics, and as they played new games they made connections between them based on the mechanics. Scholars also learned good practices for learning how to play a new game and teaching a game to new players.
