As a third-year Master of Architecture student at the University of Oklahoma with two bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Spanish Language and Literature, I am currently looking to pursue architectural jobs where I can put my degrees to use. I chose to pursue a master’s in architecture because I want to make a difference in my community, I have a passion for design, and I enjoy being challenged to find innovative and analytical solutions to vexing problems. Studying mathematics and working in the world of finance have trained me to think analytically. In earning my master’s degree, my objectives are to gain a greater understanding of architecture, how to amalgamate efficiency, utility, and creativity within a given space, and to be able to use the knowledge I am given to create architecture on my own. My immediate career goals and plans after graduation are to work in a firm and to eventually get my licensure as an architect. I want to create spaces using passive design and to help those who might not have necessary resources create a resilient living environment. I believe this will be especially important as the Earth’s population continues to grow. I want my architectural solutions not only to exist in my community, but I want them to have a positive impact on society. I truly enjoy helping others and our planet. This is the main reason that I switched career paths and what I plan to devote my life and livelihood to doing.Participating in and leading sports teams throughout my adolescence has contributed to my competitiveness and my desire to succeed in any given task. My cooperative, ambitious and sociable nature allows me to excel in groups and workplace environment. I value creativity, diversity, honesty, and dynamic relationships in professional spaces. Working as a graduate assistant, a retail assistant and a front desk associate have taught me the importance of customer service and good client connections. Currently, much of my time and energy is focused on school. However, quarantine and COVID-19 have given me much time to think about what I truly value and where I want to invest my spare time. While I still greatly appreciate being outside, creating art, and reading, I have realized my true love for cooking, hosting events, and being with other people. I enjoy the art of creating a comfortable and safe space for all guests; an intimate and composed environment in which to share stories, connect, and to experience life together.
