As a band director in Watertown Public Schools, I taught 4th and 5th grade beginner and 2nd year wind and percussion elementary lessons, middle school band, and middle school percussion. I also assisted the high school band in concert and pep band performances, and I directed an after-school middle school pep band.I was responsible for preparing each of my school ensembles for three different school concerts throughout the year, as well as planning an annual festival trip and preparing students for district events.As a traveling educator who worked in all five schools in the district, I worked with many different communities of teachers and administrators, often fostering communication between faculty in different schools, and I collaborated with my fellow music teachers on a daily basis to plan concerts, activities, and coordinate schedules between schools. During my time at Watertown, I taught music in a wide variety of settings, including middle school guitar-based general music classes, middle school adaptive music classes, middle school hand chime choir, and starting a high school percussion ensemble. I worked with students of many diverse backgrounds and abilities, ensuring that all students can access the curriculum and successfully participate and contribute to their ensemble.

I was the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade concert and jazz band director, as well as the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade general music teacher. I was (and still am) also the Milton High School Marching Band percussion instructor.In my position, I programmed, prepared, and performed music for three concert band evening school concerts, one concert band festival, and two jazz band concerts. I also prepared students to participate in district festival opportunitites.In my general music classes, I taught music theory, history, literacy, and performance skills through instruments including bucket drums, world drums, ukuleles, and bell sets. I also used chrome books, iPads, and SMART Boards in my classes.

I taught private piano lessons to students once a week; lessons consisted of basic technique, musicality, theory, note reading, scales, and a variety of repertoire, based on the students' skill levels. Outside of lesson time, I planned private lessons for the students and created worksheets to teach theory and other musicianship skills. Throughout each semester, I prepared repertoire with each student to be performed to evaluators at the end of the semester.

At Woodland Middle School, I worked with an 8th grade mixed choir, 6th and 7th grade general music classes, 7th grade percussion class, and 8th and 6th grade band classes.I both taught and accompanied choir classes, introducing new styles and vocal techniques while teaching theory and music literacy.Students in the general music classes were exposed to a wide range of musical topics, including reading, writing, and performing rhythms, mapping out musical form, comparing and contrasting instrument and vocal tone colors, and studying musical theatre.In the percussion class, I taught keyboard, timpani, snare, bass, and auxiliary technique, as well as general percussion setup technique. I also taught musicality and theory.In the 6th grade beginning band class, I taught woodwind, brass, and percussion students basic technique, fingering, and reading music, while strengthening tone production, breath control, and sight-reading skills daily.In the 8th grade band class, I built on what students have learned in their past band classes, introducing new styles of music, challenging students with more difficult repertoire, focusing on the details of musicality, and preparing them to join a high school ensemble.
