I've worked for 25 years in applied reflection seismology R&D and seismic data processing. From 2007-2013, I was an entrepreneur, leading a seismic processing business (Wave Imaging Technology Inc) which was sold. Since 2017, I've been happily employed by an E&P company, Aspect Energy, where I basically run a one-man boutique seismic processing shop. In 2023, Aspect allowed me to commercialize our in-house software to do gather conditioning (ACGC) and Kirchhoff PSDM (ACPSDM)

CurrentI have a cool and unique position at Aspect Energy, which is a small (but very successful) independent E&P company. We have built significant in-house seismic processing capabilities, at a time when most of our peers fully outsource this work. I do custom gather conditioning for AVO inversion, seismic modeling to support acquisition, and run PSDM in the Amazon elastic compute cloud (EC2). I use open source Madagascar, augmented with my own code, to get the job done. In 2023, we commercialized the gather conditioning (ACGC) and PSDM technology (ACPSDM).

I joined Joe Higginbotham in this startup; he had the rights to his SeisPak software from Texaco/Chevron and we built a seismic processing business around the software. I became President in 2008 and focused on technical sales and growing the business, though I did plenty of seismic processing and applied R&D along the way. We grew the onshore depth imaging business from zero to over a million dollars in annual sales, in a time when depth imaging was rare in the onshore market. I engineered the late-2013 asset sale to GeoCenter, LP (now SEIMAX Technologies).

I worked for Scott Morton in Hess's depth imaging R&D group. I got the Common Azimuth WEM from SEPlib running at Hess. We also developed a cool automatic picking routine, which we put into Hess's in-house interpretation system.
