As an intern, I assessed patients prior to their visit with the physician and continued patient care after their visit by providing medication education via the teach-back method. I also took on the role of training new volunteers as the MLK Health Center and Pharmacy is predominantly run by volunteers. I organized a community outreach program from start to finish with the assistance of the Community Outreach Coordinator. This meant extensive patient recruiting, creating a health care marketing strategy, and collaborating with other team members to ensure efficient transition of care. In addition, I participated in numerous outreach and fundraising events in an effort to help MLK continue to build a healthier community. Through providing access to an assortment of necessary annual screenings, we worked to bridge a major gap in healthcare.
