As part of my master's thesis I am investigating the efficiency of nature conservation interventions in regard to the breeding biology of the endangered black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa) on the island of Föhr. Surveys will take place on several sites (both conventionally managed hay meadows and upgraded grasslands) that are known to harbour breeding black-tailed godwits. Clutches will be identified and wildlife cameras will be installed to monitor hatching success and potential predation.Furthermore, insect abundance and diversity, as well as plant community composition will be investigated on the sites to derive insights on the sites' potential to support chick-rearing.

In a team of two, I surveyed several natural forest sites (Naturwälder) owned by Stiftung Naturschutz Schleswig-Holstein. Using a survey circle method, we measured and recorded several forest and tree parameters, identifed tree species in their defoliated state (according to buds and bark), mapped dead wood stock and recorded a variety of microhabitats contained within the trees (according to Bütler et al., 2020).
