Morris B. Cohen is a Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Georgia Tech, (GT) and Associate Director of GTs Center for Space Technology and Research. His scientific interests include low-frequency radio wave generation, propagation and remote sensing, including applications to lightning characterization, ionospheric physics, d-region electron density mapping, machine learning for space weather forecasting, and space plasma physics. He also studies novel methods for efficient broadband electrically short antennas, and imaging through electric conductors.Dr. Cohen has authored or co-authored more than 100 publications in international peer-reviewed journals, and his research has been highlighted by the journal Nature, and by AGU EOS. He is also the 2014 recipient of the Santimay Basu Prize by the International Union of Radio Science (URSI), an award given once per three years to one under-35 scientist. Dr. Cohen was the recipient of four Outstanding Student Paper Awards from 2005-2010 by URSI and the American Geophysical Union (AGU). He also won the 2018 Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence award by Georgia Tech's Center for Teaching and Learning, and the 2023 Outstanding Mid-Career Faculty Award by the School of ECE at GT.He has previously served as President of the Atmospheric and Space Electricity section of the American Geophysical Union.Dr. Cohen received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University, CA, in 2003, 2004, and 2010, respectively. From 2009-2013, Dr. Cohen was a Research Scientist at Stanford University, Department of Electrical Engineering. From 2012-2013, he served as a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow, at the National Science Foundation, Engineering Directorate.Separately, Dr. Cohen serves as a Precinct Manager within DeKalb County, responsible for setting up, running and closing out elections at one precinct location, and managing the rest of the precinct poll workers on election day.
