Designing and delivering Natural Flood Management schemes in the Upper Cuckmere and Powdermill catchments and across the High Weald National Landscape.The work involves a very broad range of tasks - working with local communities, individuals impacted, landowners, contractors, and wide range of stakeholders including the Environment Agency, ESCC flood department, Sussex Wildlife Trust, water companies and others.The job to date has involved scoping the most suitable places for NFM interventions which have the greatest chance of delivering mitigation benefit to impacted communities and landowner support. Designing and delivering pilot projects after obtaining funding and ordinary watercourse/main river, felling or other consents.I use GIS and SCALGO flood modelling software as part of my work, and have written major bids to DEFRA and the EA to extend the project.

Worked to deliver an EU-funded Natural Flood Management pilot project in South East England as part of the national pilot NFM project. Worked as a member of the strategic Medway Flood Partnership - and the EU "FRAMES" project with partners frrm the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Denmark. The project sought to inspire an holistic approach to climate-change induced flooding through better planning and preparedness, increased environmental and community resilience, improved emergency response and post-flood recovery. The pilot I was responsible tested a landscape scale Natural Flood Management approach to hold water in the landscape to reduce flood peaks at 12 different landholdings across the region, and at the same time provided multiple benefits for biodiversity and farm enterprises.The project was successfully delivered in March 2021 exceeding its original targets. Successfully delivered a £4.6 Million bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund, This helped unlock £60 million of private and public funding to build the National Centre for Horticultural Science and Learning; and a Conservation Plan to restore the iconic "Horticultural Laboratory" building: and to for the first time record, respect and protect the entire garden heritag of RHS Wisley. Engaged over 40 RHS specialists in the production of the bid, worked ans an acitive member of the civil engineering team, and worked closely with the Heritage Lottery Fund to drive greater engagement of diverse and local community audiences.

A maternity cover post for the internationally acclaimed juvenile diabetes charity JDRF. I led fundraising development in Southeast England, delivering fundraising events and nurturing our supporter and benefactor network.I successfully exceeded fundraising targets and opened new opportunities, and gained useful new skills in the effective use of a large customer relationship database and social media.

Developing new projects and partnerships to deliver the long-term strategic aims of the organisation. Developing and writing bids to Heritage Lottery Fund, European and Landfill funders for wildlife conservation and community environmental projects, and land acquisition to extend existing nature reserves. Examples of successful projects:Fackendown Down - a significant land purchase to extend a high quality chalk grassland nature reserve in the Kent Downs.Linbury (Sainsbury) Trust - for a project to engage older people in wildlife conservationYouth Social Action Fund - a partnership with Prince's Trust to engage young people in environmental projects."LIPARIS"​ - a cross-Channel Interreg IVa project to protect endangered plant species with French partners and the Royal Botanic gardens, Kew."PANACHE"​ - an Interreg project to work with coastal Wildlife Trusts and French partners to develop a series of Marine Protected Areas in the English Channel"Return to Eden"​ an Environment Agency project to restore water courses for otters and riparian species, West Kent."Marsh Community Garden"​ - Funding to provide greenhouses and staff time for a community horticulture project on Romney Marsh."HLF Catalyst" - to develop innovative methods to drive recruitment and ensure long-term security of organisation.Romney Marsh Landscape HLF Partnership - contributed to work of team which won this £1.9 Million bid. Produced successful Marine, Youth and Landscape bids to the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Working on an EU funded project to map biodiversity in Kent and Northern France. Organised a network of organisations in Kent and Nord Pas de Calais to collect and share data to produce a map of the region's habitats.Successfully submitted first operational report and financial claim for the project..Developed organisational structure, project procedures and established steering group.Organised launch conference in Northern France.Secured an additional £30,000 funding for the project

Responsible for attraction of approximately £9 Million in additional funds to Hastings to regenerate the town and to support a network of partners in the voluntary and community sectors. Developed new funding streams from the European Union through sustainability and environmental initiatives.Managed the regeneration programme and acted as coordinator for the LEGI (Local Economic Growth Initiative) and Area Investment Framework programmes.ACHIEVEMENTS:Negotiated an additional £1.5 million from central government to support community based regeneration projects in Hastings and secured €1.4 million from the European Union to support sustainable development and job creation projects in the town.Secured £4 Million from the 'Sea Change' programme to attract a major new art gallery to Hastings. Initiated involvement in the German-led FUTURE CITIES programme to introduce new policy approaches to Climate Change mitigation through the creation of Green-Blue infrastructure and the retrofit of domestic buildings for increased sustainability. Initiated the ACE Low Carbon project to reduce the carbon footprint of small and medium enterprises.

My main duty was to review of the impact of Environment Agency operations on international wildlife sites and to advidse on Natura 2000 SAC and SPA sites and on duties under the RAMSAR treaty,. I led  the  production of key scientific reports for DEFRA, especially for key river and estuarine sites in Southeast England.. I coordinated the response of Environment Agency to South East Plan in terms of international duties, and helped drive responses on green infrastructure and biodiversity.I worked as part of as strategic regional response team with colleagues to drought, water qaulity and resources in the climatically challenging year of 2006.

I built this local operation of a national charity from one which employed only myself on a fixed term contract to one employing over 20 environmental, training and community workers. I built annual turnover of more than £600,000 and made a large net contribution to central funds annually.I worked closely with local landowners, farmers and agencies to deliver a high quality programme of conservation work, delivered by a well supported and trained network of volunteers. I made a significant step-change to the organisation which supported the efforts of thousands of people in local community groups, and provided accredited training courses for hundreds of students each year through a partnership I negotiated with Plumpton College.I was solely responsible for development of the organisation, bid-writing, budgetary control, staff and volunteer recruitment and management, advocacy and promotion.Won a number of awards, including the national Biffaward for the best community based environmental project of 200+ entrants.

I managed a number of project teams working in schools in North and East Devon to develop wildlife and allotment gardens in school grounds. We also developed and produced supporting educational materials and activities.I also initiated a project to build three replica iron age roundhouses on the edge of Dartmoor as part of an woodland education trail.

Ranger for the Cammo Estate, ran community environmental events, education projects, guided walks. Widened audience participation from local residents and young people from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.Conducted and published a precise ornithological survey of the distribution of breeding birds, and a publication about the fascinating landscape history of the former estate.

Conducted botanical surveys of the unique lowland heath flora of the Lizard peninsula, focussing on the distribution of rare and obscure species such as Juncus pygmaeus and Isoetes histrix (the latter probably the most obscure species in the British Isles!).Undertook visitor attitude surveys in socio-demographically diverse visitor communities and localities, and wrote reports on that and on impact on local population.
