Postdoctoral ResearcherFlorida Atlantic University 2016 - 2018Boca Raton, Fl, UsContributed as the key investigator to the following research projects:● Fracture mechanics of face/core sandwich structures:Design, fabrication and debond testing of sandwich composites consisting of aluminum face and foam/honeycomb cores,● Polymer-matrix materials for high temperature applications:Incorporation of carbon nanomaterials (such as CNTs and graphene) into thermoplastic polymers to enhance their elevated temperature behavior,● Water absorption of glass-fiber/polymer composites:Experimental and theoretical examination of micro-mechanisms for moisture transport, and● Corrosion of post-tensioned steel cables:Microstructural characterization and chemical analysis of coatings and cables. -
Teaching/Research AssistantFlorida Atlantic University 2012 - 2016Boca Raton, Fl, UsKey achievements and activities:● Managed and executed a research project focused on the development of new polymer-matrix materials with improved thermal and mechanical performance, leading to 7 scientific publications and presentation.● Developed an innovative and viable chemical technique to prepare core-shell nanohybrids based on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS). The CNT-POSS nanohybrid products show a high stability in solvents, and a high degree of functionality in reacting with polymer resins.● Successfully revealed the attachment of POSS onto CNT walls using AFM, studied and visualized the CNT distribution into polymer by Nanoindentation mapping and Raman imaging.● Mentored and trained 50+ users in utilizing materials testing facilities including DSC, TGA, DMA, AFM, FTIR, Raman, nanoindentation, tension-compression, bending, and fatigue. -
