Worked for their Strategic Planning department in Access, AS/400, Lotus. Design and development of a universal general ledger interface using Access on a LAN interfacing with an AS/400. Built import sequences from diverse sources including spreadsheets, other databases, fixed length files of various formats,and Lotus print files among others. This data was then filtered against the chart of accounts, responsibility centers and other checks, then exported to a fixed-length format to be imported by the AS/400. Worked with all accounting departments, including Treasury, Finance, Fixed Assets, Customer Investments, etc. Company-wide development is towards a 'data-warehouse'.

Worked for the World Banking Group in Access, SQL Server, Notes, Delphi. Rapid development of an order system for PC systems, networked throughout the bank via MS SQL Server and Lotus Notes, using an Access front-end with SQL Server back-end, with links to the Corporate Directory and a Products database maintained in Livermore.

Built Design Document Distribution system using Paradox, Notes. Called in on short notice to help reconstruct a Paradox for Windows database which had crashed and to provide support in their migration from Paradox through Access into a Notes Server based application.

Programmed huge and growing customer/order databases requiring sophisticated ongoing maintenance. Transferred complete DBase IV system over to a networked Paradox system. The data transfer and conversion itself took over two weeks.

National project involving adaptation of an ORACLE/FOCUS mainframe system onto micros and laptops. The Account Management Information System (AMIS) was an integrated PC and laptop-based tracking and reporting system for field account reps. Also worked on the Retail Information System (RIS), specifically focusing on the Contract Postal Units (CPU) tracking system. Many mainframe/ mini-to-micro and micro-to-micro issues were addressed, including multi-tasking background communications and 'flash-card' modems.

Paradox, AS/400. Developed a complete repricing system in less than 100 hours. Handled download of data from AS/400. Provided guidance to a mainframe-oriented company in downsizing to micros.

Paradox, ObjectVision. Systems analysis and programming for (1) executive tracking system, (2) publications management systems, (3) election vote analysis system and (4) projects management system for networked micros. Prototyped applications using Object Vision and Windows, including use of the Resource Workshop.

Clipper. Brought in on an emergency basis to fix several critical problems in a pharmacological program. Maintained the interface between medical testing instruments and the software. Performed complete system rewrite and overhaul in Clipper 5.

Worked in DBase, Clipper. Design and programming of a national Service Contract Adminstration System (SCADS) on networked PCs (Novell). Developed new approach to Clipper programming, including object-oriented and windows programming concepts, bringing some of the better user-interface tools of Paradox into a dBase/Clipper environment. Worked with DesqView 2.26, QEMM, UI and downloading and importing of mainframe data. Rewrite of existing application in Clipper 5.01.

Drew up specifications and tested wide range of options towards bridging personal computers (Macs and IBMs) to mainframes (IBM 3090 and 3081), setting up and using gateway servers over networks (Appletalk and IBM Token Ring). Worked in VM/SA, CMS, CP, JCL, Nomad, FoxPro, FoxBase for the Mac. Evaluated Oracle, McMax, Clipper, etc. before modeling similar interfaces for both IBM and Mac in Foxpro and FoxBase and prototyping download/upload procedures to the mainframe via servers using Nomad and C. Worked with a NEXT prototype. Application was a informational catalog publishing EPRI projects.

Clipper. Worked with an on-site programmer to develop the ODES data system that will likely become a national standard for reporting to the EPA on the water content of bays, estuaries and other bodies of water. Had to work within the EPA data structures and write an appropriate user interface maintaining appropriate hierarchical structures in Clipper.

Fox. Installed FoxPro and slightly modified a FoxPlus application and tested this survey software for speed and compatability.

C, Clipper, Paradox, Novell. This was a startup high-tech food company with minimal previous computerization. I designed and/or programmed the following: 1) supplies ordering and analysis, 2) order entry/invoicing/customer service, 3) sales tracking and forecasting, 4) inventory management (included supplies relief and reorders), 5) production tracking, 6) production scheduling 7)assembly and sub-assembly instruction generation, 8) costing, 9) analysis systems, 10) quality control using UPC readers. In addition, I handled most hardware and software purchase and installation, including Novell network with IBM PCs and Macintosh with TOPS network and new Novell 2.15, using C, Clipper, Paradox, some Windows, some Quarterdeck, print sharing software, etc. Designed some communications programs in anticipation of remote monitoring and control of large-scale processing plants. In addition, they had a sophisticated quality control process involving Universal Product Code readers downloaded through dedicated and non-dedicated lines in a unique protocol.

For this arm of the National Endowment for the Humanities I designed and programmed: 1) Complete accounting package (including journals, G/L, checks, payroll, regrant and gift ledgers, etc.) 2) Grants management package (including person/organization, rojects tracking, calendar system).
