About Massimo Moschini

I’m an Electronic Engineer that began designing electronic circuits with vacuum tubes at the age of ten, and repaired hundreds of radio and televisions, together with hi-fi systems while I was studying high school and university. So my real experience in analog and digital systems is of 46 years.I have designed more than 30 systems for the defense, communication and civil application industry, as employee, consultant, company CTO and now, as freelance engineer. I have spent some months at JPL in Pasadena, Los Angeles to integrate into the X-SAR Radar ground system the performance estimator and performance analyzer into the entire radar system in 1993.Nowdays I am a freelance with great experience in designing embedded mixed analog and digital systems, starting from the system specifications till the prototype and production, firmware included, which interfaces with a large number of sensors and actuators of all types (mainly innovative). The so called command and control systems, included IoT systems, with the aid of experts of the specific application area.So I collaborate With start-ups to develop innovative successful products.Since 1999 I have also a personal well equipped laboratory for design and production/rework of circuits and equipments till 2 GHZ of frequency.Now I’m studying and implementing systems inside “internet of Things”, and acquiring deep knowledge of IT Security and SmartCards.

    - Main Tasks :- Development and Prototyping of a new upgraded version of the IQ Modulator (HW and relevant FW embedded) using the Analog Device AD9957 for the new generation of RES FADR, always using PLD Altera and PIC 8 bit;- Design an prototyping of a card for the complete Radar timing generation for the RES FADR, using FPGA Altera, RAMs and 8 bit PIC ; - Supervision on the overall RES system HW design;- Supervision to the developement an prototyping of a DataPumper Card, always for the RES System;The function of this card is to synchronize the offline data coming from the DSP card with the real time radar signals, using Altera FPGA and 8 bit PIC; The syncrhonized data are then sent to the IQ modulator;- Design and Prototyping of a GPS receiver; this receiver had the peculiarity to have both the sampling rate and the number of bit of each sample completely programmable from a PC via USB;The maximum values of Both these variables is higher Than the value used in commercial GPS receiver; This for the scope of studying the effect of interfering signals over the performance of the GPS position calculation;To obtain these higher sampling rate and number of bit value, thestate of the art of components has been used both for digital (High Performance FPGA) and for analog (Completely Microprocessor controllable Amplifiers Gain and Up/Down converter Speed and Number of Bits);- System Supervision and design, prototyping and validation test of the complete HW and PIC Firmware of the ENI “Enjoy” Car Sharing onboard system.     DittaIDS Ingegneria dei Sistemi di Pisa - Data​: 7/1994 – 10/2004- Type of role : Circuit Laboratory Team Leader; - Main Activity :- Development of the entire HW part (Receiver, Transmitter, Acquisition System) of a Georadar Equiupment (first in Italy); This system, including the improovement that in the time have been performed, is nowdays succesfully commercilized by IDS all over the world; The Transmitter is a balanced Pulse generator at various bandwith (using avalanche BJT and Step Recovery Diode), and a PRF varying from 50 KHz to 400 KHz; The receiver is a sampling balanced receiver converting the RF signal into audio frequency with the technique of the sampling oscilloscope (Sampling Pulses obtained by using avalanche BJT and Step Recovery Diodes); The dynamic of the entire system had to be very extended (100 dB), and this required a particularly accrate design; - - Development and prototyping of an acquisition card (HW and FW Embedded) of an interferometer Radar, using FPGA, DDS, 16 bit Audio ADC, Cypress FX2 processor; -Development and prototyping of the an Up/Down converter at 900 MHz (IF) for both the Transmitter (gain controllable amplifier) and the receiver (IF Mixer to Downconvert the 900 MHz IF into an audio band) of the same Radar; The gain controllable amplifier had to boost the 900 MHZ input signal till 1 W RMS, in order to drive correctly the other part of the Radar beeing an Up conversion to some GHZ using Step Recovery based frequency multiplier;
