Project Lead: WASH in SchoolsASEI & CAWST are using an innovative water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in Schools toolkit aimed at capacitating schools in Uganda to manage and lead incremental improvements to their WASH infrastructure which includes rainwater tanks, shallow wells, handwashing stations, latrines etc.My roles include:- Mapping and Engagement of relevant stakeholders for WASH in Schools in Uganda.- Identifying partner schools based on program requirements- Teaching the overall program approach and the UNICEF 3-star approach to schools- Leading the WASH needs assessment and presenting findings of the assessment to schools.- Facilitating the development of school-led WASH improvement plans for each of the partner schools.- Following up and assisting schools implement improvements to their WASH infrastructure.Project Lead: Solar Powered UV-C Water PurificationSince 2020, ASEI has been piloting the use of UV-C sterilization as a solution to delivering safe drinking water to Ugandan communities at the point of use.My roles include:- Engineering design and prototyping- Field deployments of the designed systems- Development and management of university and industry partnerships- User Research Designs- Water Sampling & Water Quality Monitoring- Fundraising

Part of the sustainability assessment team for the $32m USAID funded Uganda Sanitation for Health Activity (USHA) that aimed to:- Increase household access to sanitation and water services- Ensure adoption of key hygiene behaviors at home, school, and health facilities- Strengthen district water and sanitation governance for sustainable services

Part of the sustainability assessment team for the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation funded Water Service Delivery Models in Kabarole District, Uganda.Specific Roles:- Conducted one on one, and focus group interviews of water source committees managing boreholes (shallow and deep wells), protected springs, & piped water schemes in Kabarole District under Mid-Western Water Umbrella, Uganda.- Conducted sanitary surveys of water supply schemes at different points including source, in-take, treatment and distribution points. - Conducted field water sampling from water points in schools, healthcare facilities and communities using standard protocols.- Conducted water quality testing using AquaSafe WSL50 water quality testing kit. Parameters tested included total coliforms, E.coli, turbidity, total and free chlorine, nitrates, nitrites and arsenic.- Scheduled, coordinated & ensured that field activities happened as planned.- Prepared daily field and laboratory reports / narratives to support the program evaluation team.

Through the Efficiency for Access Design Challenge, a multi-university competition managed by Energy Saving Trust and facilitated by EWB UK, I led a team of 5 student engineers from Gulu University to prototype a project aimed at deploying UV-C LED reactors for water treatment in emergency situations. Specific Roles:- Concept note & proposal development, - Conducted engineering designs,- Procured project materials,- Prototyped, & pitched our final design to industry.

At CREEC, I worked across Solar and Bioenergy departments. My tasks included;- Solar system sizing for the Makerere University CEDAT 10KW Solar system, - Used CADEX C8000 system to test quality of solar panels, batteries, and monitor cell balance and capture load signatures to observe batteries with a unique load protocol.Part of the field research team that conducted;1. A study to identify opportunities for private sector engagement for refugee hosting areas in Uganda, with focus on Kiryandongo refugee settlement in 2020 under funding from the World Bank in collaboration with Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) and the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).2. Verification of Access to Modern Energy services through grid densification for poor rural households in Uganda - conducted in partnership with University of Leeds - UK.3. A study on cooking practices and cooking fuel in Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso areas - conducted in partnership with the University of Loughborough - UK.
