www.solidaridadnetwork.org/ is a global non-profit organization focused on improving the social, environmental and economic sustainability of several commodity supply chains globally, with an emphasis on empowering smallholder producers, including farmers, workers and miners. In Asia, we have programs in Bangladesh focused on various commodity supply chains including dairy, fruits and vegetables, and aquaculture, among others.A human-centered design (HCD) consultant/firm to conduct the necessary HCD research study that informs and supports both the program and technical teams to design tools that are effective, addressing the needs of the women farmers, and truly of value to them. We also require the HCD consultant to support product testing, where feedback is gathered from the users of the tools during the product development cycle, using a HCD approach, and relayed back to the program and technical teams to develop product iterations and ultimately, the final version of the tools.OBJECTIVESWe expect the study to examine, but not limited to, the following aspects:1. Accessibility and ownership of mobile phones (smartphones/feature phones) by women dairy farmers2. Capacities of women dairy farmers to use mobile phone technology as well as internet 3. House-hold power dynamics regarding use of mobile phones by women dairy farmers for financial inclusion and technical assistance training 4. Free time availability of the women dairy farmers, depending on their daily work schedule, where they would be most receptive to receiving messages via IVR on cattle rearing 5. Any backlash expected from the community, if women are supported to achieve greater financial inclusion and technical training 6. Required functionality and attributes of the digital tools developed by the project, based on the needs and constraints of women dairy farmers7. Ensuring alignment with USAID Digital Principles8.
