About Chuck Sailors

"Take care of your character, and your reputation will take care of itself." I like that. Integrity. Ethics. Hard work and determination.I love to design and develop software applications & solve problems. Really I am so happy with my career choice because it is genuinely fun to do what we do. Creating software and applications is like building a house to me. Without plans and good building practices, a great team, and good leadership, it's hard to deliver what the customer wants. Each part is very important. I like being involved in all stages of the software life-cycle because I enjoy making the product owners satisfied just as much as I enjoy design & architecture for my own personal gratification. I like to stay well organized at work and keep my projects and teams sharp. I'm also passionate about being a servant-leader and making my colleagues and teammates successful by supporting them and giving them the tools and right motivation to help them make the magic happen. I want to always be someone people desire to work with. I have learned the best way to do that and to lead is to lift other people up and grow them, engage them and strengthen them. I take responsibility when it things don't go well, but want to always pass the praise on to my team members."If anything goes bad, I did it. If anything goes semi-good, we did it. If anything goes really good, then you did it. ..." - Paul William "Bear" Bryant That's one way we all can look at things to be successful over the long term.I have been extremely fortunate by the influences I have had to grow me throughout the start of my career. The influences I had from mentors and bright coworkers that I had the privilege to work with helped greatly shape the Engineer and Architect I am today. I hope to mentor others as they begin theirs. But I always want to be the "small fish in a big pond" so I always have room to grow and get better. "Judge a man by his questions rather than his answers.” - Voltaire

Enterprise Solutions Architect

Roanoke, Virginia

As an Enterprise Solutions Architect in the Enterprise Solutions and Architecture Department of Advance Auto Parts. In this role, I am exposed to almost all aspects of our retail organization to some degree. I have had the pleasure to be the Enterprise Architect assigned to our Master Data Management initiative, where I designed and assisted in the implementation of our interim solution for integration with our SaaS MDM platform. Later in 2018, I was the Enterprise Architect for our HR Information System (Workday) adoption and integrations where we delivered HR information and systems for 4 banner organizations into a single platform for our 70k+ team members. For 2019 I have had the privilege to be the Chief Architect on the Advance Auto Parts - Walmart Partnership. It is our biggest initiative of the year. In this partnership, we sell our auto parts via Walmart's eCommerce site. I designed overall architecture including some more specific details to plan and deliver the technical and functional implementation for our partnership. In this capacity, I work with many teams that are cast across the IT and business retail pipeline to finish the first phase of the partnerships implementation from inception to production delivery. I've also engaged with the Walmart business and IT leadership assigned to the partnership to promote a strong relationship between our organizations. I am determined to deliver IT solutions and improvements that will guide Advance Auto Parts through meaningful initiatives and transformations that will increase our customer-centric mindset while improving efficiency and investments in our retail industry and digital vision.

Senior Software Consultant

Independent

Roanoke, Virginia Area

While continuing to work full time I also was an active independent consultant. I have met with clients, communicated with clients directly and helped them define scope of work, requirements, and designed IT based solutions. I have designed and implemented solutions for 3 projects thus far as an independent consultant. One was a continuation of the work I was doing while under the employ of Harmonia Holdings Group for the Harsco Corporation. I feel it is a testament to my clients appreciation and admiration of my work. This project tracks assets around the globe and presents their known locations on maps and historical metrics in a web application. It processes data sent to servers and performs calculations and real time analytics on the data and is used for multiple tenants. Since I knew this large and complex project so well, I continued to manage sprints and implement feature requests which are sometimes large. The second project was a small application to facilitate oil & gas investment advisers by projecting returns on the investments, re-investment, and tax benefits. It helped create investment strategies for their clients by automating these lengthy calculations and allowed for easily tailoring the strategy with inputs for a potential investor. This project only used modern web based technologies like angularJS, CSS3, and HTML5. A third project was pro-bono work for my church which helped allowed them to control cameras from a PC. This used a forms application to send commands to an existing camera controller via serial connections. This allowed for another technician to focus on camera angles while the camera technician focused on following with a camera.

Dec 2013 - Jun 2018

Solutions Architect/Lead Developer

Corvesta, Inc.

Roanoke, Virginia Area

"Solutions architect" what is that role? I get that question. My role was to be "in the gap" between DEVOPS/CLOUDOPS and developers, and between Senior Architects and engineers. I was a coach, and I champion standards and best practices in systems and software development. I tried to help engineers by implementing proof of concepts, writing up documentation/blogs on new technology that the company was adopting, or writing the code for examples. I also met with vendors of IT solutions the company had purchased. I researched ways the company could leverage tools and existing software to complete our work on time. Often, I met with business users and BSA's to plan development and explain scope of work for solutions to feature requests that maintain the vision of the business and architects, including myself. I created presentations to the organization for developers or business users on new technology, and presentations on how to use software I helped write that is meant to be frameworks or enterprise-wide or tools in nature. I enjoyed helping my coworkers stay focused by removing the obstacles and noise, and by teaching and leadership. Being in a role of service to the team, as a whole, is what i enjoyed because "we" get it done, not any one person.

Nov 2013 - Jun 2018

Team Lead, Software Engineer Iii

Team lead and developer of systems and applications for agencies both private and in the government such as the Harsco Corporation, Department of Defense, USDA, and US Navy. Worked closely with clients and focused on executing successful practices and communication skills. I served with honesty, ethics, and a pride in what I did.

Jan 2011 - Nov 2013

Development of features, new applications and bug fixes. I worked on test procedures, quality assurance and managing our support team as support team lead. I also developed n-tier applications from conceptualization to fruition.
