About Dylan M.

I am a quantitative scientist and Bayesian data analyst, currently working in baseball analytics and predictive modeling for the Tampa Bay Rays.Previously, I was a lecturer in the School of Information at the University of Arizona following my graduation from the Ph.D. program in Mathematics at the same University. My dissertation research was in mathematical physics; specifically, the Toda hierarchy of lattice equations. As time allows, I am continuing this work, with applications in the theory of orthogonal polynomials.While at the iSchool, I contributed to research into improved OCR algorithms for Arabic and other connected scripts, with the goal of digitizing a collection of documents owned by the University of Arizona Library, primarily in Pashto and Dari Persian. Towards this goal, I developed edge detection software for image preprocessing and implemented novel recurrent neural network cell architectures in Keras. This work was partially supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
