Melissa Peneycad is a senior business executive with over 20 years of global leadership in sustainability. Known for her strategic work in embedding sustainability principles into infrastructure, organizational practices, and public-private partnerships (PPP), Melissa has influenced the sustainability of organizations and projects across diverse sectors such as agriculture, energy, healthcare, housing, transportation, and water. Her portfolio of projects across these sectors totals a capital expenditure of over US$200 billion, including the more than 95 projects she has evaluated, prepared, and designed in the past ten years.Her leadership has driven significant environmental, social, and governance outcomes and advancements toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Notably, she has played a leading role in developing and implementing tools like the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe’s PPP and Infrastructure Evaluation and Rating System (PIERS methodology), the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure's Envision framework, and the Building Owners and Managers Association's Building Environmental Standards (BOMA BEST) program.Melissa’s current work strongly reflects the social pillar of sustainability. She applies her expertise in project management, public engagement, framework development, organizational design, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the professional licensing and regulation sector, a sector focused on protecting the public interest by ensuring that regulated professionals such as nurses, lawyers, engineers, and accountants practice safely, competently, and ethically. In addition to her sustainability and public protection work, Melissa has ventured into publishing with her company, Clover Lane Publishing. Her work includes “Halifax Food Scene” (July 2024)—a celebration of the restaurants and diverse cuisines in her hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia—and “Essentials of Artificial Intelligence for Beginners” (October 2024), which expands her contribution to education and technology by presenting the intricacies of artificial intelligence in an approachable and engaging way. She is working on her third book, which focuses exclusively on generative AI tools and techniques, including the art and science of prompt engineering. This book is scheduled to be released in Q1-2025.
